This guy does hood vids on learning curves.
LS used to not be bad, don’t get any tickets, or bad inspections.
    keep truck up.
I’d still be there if i hadn’t wanted to get my own numbers, but there is a steep curve.
And another thing if your low on money, be aware the first week when they say your hired on, your going to go in the red for insurance cost, during orientation and may take 2-4 days after orientation to get a trailer.

    Rideandrepair and Siinman Thank this.

Depends on how smart you are, and how well you handle other people. If you have any business neg or sales I would say it would be fairly easy to make a decent living. I have never worked for them just my thoughts from how they present themselves.

I know if you have your own trailer (and don't pool it) you'll do better than a guy who's 'renting' one of their trailers. I think it's 10%, but don't quote me. If flatbed, having your own trailer would make more sense than a van driver who might get D&H freight.

A lot of the reasons Landstar is the size it is today are no longer at Landstar. It used to be a place where problem solving agents had great customers with great paying freight and BCO’s that were proud of their safety rating and work ethic. A couple agents basically hijacked the system hiring call centers in far away lands like Ukraine, India, etc to spam the boards with “fake loads” from other load boards.
There are still some great agencies out there doing $pecialized loads, but life isn’t fair. If you’re not in the right place at the right time, you’ll never know about them. Their normal BCO’s will get called long before something is posted to the board. The short term at Landstar will suck. You’ll either use the tools they provide along with networking to find the good freight or you’ll leave. It used to be far easier to get hooked up with good agents and freight, but the days of domicile agents are long, long gone. An example of my networking in the early days. I was on a huge military move in 2010 or so, and after delivering at Ft Polk there was zero freight. I hung out with some old school AA&E drivers and one of them gave me the military agent list for every base in the US. I used that to cold call those agents when I was near or delivering to a base. If this is the type of businessman you are, you’ll do great. If you want everything handed to you, and think life should be fair, you’ll struggle.
ETA: Speaking of life isn’t fair, I’ve been gone from LS for 3 years now, but still do a lot of work for them. Right after I typed this, one of my great agents just called me (an outside carrier) to do a load instead of posting on the LS load board. That happens all the time.

Four years ago a Landstar o/o called me up crying because his truck broke down and he needed $1,500.

I lent him the money with an agreement that I would be paid back in 3 weeks. Unfortunately he’s gone off radar and on the run.

My guess is Landstar will keep you broke :)
