I was looking in the classifieds and noticed lots of interest in MC numbers and buying an operating company as is...has anyone on here actually sold their company that way?

Yeah I notice that too… I just want to find stuff that I need and 90+ percent of what’s there is mcs or dot numbers. Not really sure what the obsession with buying and selling them is.

I've always been curious about that myself.

What exactly is their desire or need to buy a new number? I thought that after the number was sold or transferred it reverted back to a new company with no history.

    I'm not an O/O, so I'm sure there's something I'm missing.

I don't even know why anyone would want to do that.

In the very beginning there are some Brokers that won't work with you but in a few months that pretty much is gone. And I don't think it's really that many anyway to begin with.

I don't know what anybody is charging or paying for an MC number but it only cost a couple hundred dollars to get one aside from your insurance and whatnot but you'll need that anyway if you bought one so I don't get it.

The only thing I can think is these are people that got shut down or they're scammers or for some reason they're running or hiding from something

Much cheaper insurance rates is one reason…

As a driver on the boards if I see an mc that says 14xxxxx I will not even bother to call. I know they new as hell.

So I could see a point to this.

Insurance doesn't follow the #. Unless the seller keeps everything in their name and pretends they still own it.

If the # is a C-Corp, then a stock purchase keeps everything the same.

I remember when they were talking of doing away with mc numbers, when they started the URS.

I had to do some digging but found old info about it.
Goodbye, MC Numbers. Hello, Unified Registration System
