I’d really appreciate knowing what thoughts some of you big rig truckers have regarding being drafted by a motorcycle.

A few days ago I was heading east on I-80 in mid-state PA. It was a cold day and my heated gear wasn’t up to the job. When I came upon one rig overtaking another I slipped in tightly behind the rig in the left lane. Of course there’s almost no wind when I was in tight compared to heavy turbulent wind when I hung back.

One driver gave me a thumbs up when I got around him. Another gave me the middle finger.

My question is how do truckers feel about this maneuver? Does it bother you as a driver if I’m on your ### as you are overtaking another truck?

    Thanks for any replies.

I’ve had a few ride behind for wind block , but I’ve rode bikes, some know what your doing, some don’t, they just think your crazy and being aggressive.

It never bothered me. My worry was road debris I may see but the motorcyclist may not see until it's too late.

All it takes is a sheet of plywood on the highway that can't be avoided and that'll be the end of the biker if it happens to kick up behind the trailer.

Right and blown tire debris. At night the trucker may see it, but not in time to warn the motorcyclist.

I drive truck and a bike and if you want to hang out back there have at er… but it’s not where you’ll find my bike. Any bit of dust, dirt, water & debris on the road will be circling all around in a mini tornado and you’ll be getting it not to mention anything that the truck hits or comes off the truck. It’s just dumb.

Truck you're drafting blows one tire and you'll never do that again, if you live through it.

If you following close you stay in there tire tracks so it limits them straddling something that will put you on the ground……
