You have to remember, not everyone is cut out for trucking.
As for someone disowning their child, per say, for being a driver, a bunch don’t realize or see what drivers do/put up with.
There’s a ton of what I call, behind the scenes work.(what the public never see, or will ever care to know.)

    Example.

The future of electricians is flip flops, a tool box, GREAT money, and unlimited work! That would be my next move for sure if I was on the move.

Yeah but if you’ve ever had to hire a licensed Electrictian or plumber , you know how much money they make .

we routinely pay $5k for an Electrictian and a helper to pull a permit and bolt a breaker panel and weatherhead on a pole.

It takes them about half a day , including their travel time .

    That’s true

that’s also why I reccomend that drivers find a position that has some barriers to entry .

some companies require the driver be a natural born citizen and pass an extensive credit criminal and driving background investigation that includes the parents , siblings, in-laws etc .

that eliminates 90% of the available driver pool .

I have one foot in a local, home most nights, every weekend (unless you want to work, they have lots) job doing deliveries inside my province. No more long haul, never any more than 5 hours from home. I'm ALMOST ready to pull the trigger.
I'm almost 60, and living in a tin can, waiting for loads, is growing old on me.
As I sit in NC, waiting for a load.....
Slamming doors will be tough but I will just focus on my home projects for "mechanical stimulation " and the fact I'll actually have time to work on them.
The fact my neighbors, and all their friends, constantly throw mechanical work at me, I mostly turn down because I dont have time, working on their boats, motorcycles, 4 wheelers, lawn tractors etc, may help also.
Just have to get the other foot over the threshold.....

Find what you like to do.
    What's your passion?

The only reason I still truck is because I like it.
Regional with most nights at home and a hotel when I'm not.
Private carrier w about 400 to 500 customer accounts to service so it's never the same day. Lots of backroads and we fuel wherever we want.
Pay and benefits are above average and my pension and social security just keep growing.
I'm done and will retire at the earliest in October and the latest August of 24.
If I make it till then that's 50 yrs of truckin.

Geez Louize, If There aint just ONE that tickles yer fancy then I guess there's no reason to dream of something new, so, whomever ye may be, get back in Yer Road Warrior Truck, hook yer Handy dandy 45', 48', or 53' trailer (as well other fancy types and dimensions) and dodge some 4 wheelers whilst eating burritos chased with Shaky Juice.

    Quit playing with them knobs.
