I know of a company In Atlanta that likes to hire former military or LEO, since their drivers have to pass an extensive background check.

You don't say where in "north Florida" you're located.....but if you're within say, 50 miles of Jacksonville (or Ocala)....you might give this carrier a serious look:

Given your track record in law enforcement--I think that would give you a real advantage with them....they are pretty picky about who they hire.

For pay, working conditions, etc....DOT is arguably THE reefer fleet to do...if reefer is one of your potential goals (& assuming you can get on with them).

If you are not within 50 miles of Ocala, or Jax--you can still try, of course....but your odds of success drop off the further out you are.

Not sure what the situation is at that terminal, but those are the MINIMUM requirements for ODFL. The amount of applications they get are through the roof. The one that was open near me wouldn’t even open an application if experience was less than 2 years.

That said, if the OP is anywhere near Ocala, there’s some mega carrier options. It might not be the best, but after a few months the options open up, especially for teams.

 

North Florida is a large area, so St. Augustine narrows it down and makes it easier to find a company that hires in your area.
