Mine's only 11, that's why I'm raising minis there. You can run twice as many per acres, and they're more feed efficient with a higher carcass yield..... someday it'll be bigger, neighbor on the south side has another 20 he's said he'll offer to me first when he sells. Then the north side is I think 7 or 8 with a house, nobody lives there now, guy doesn't want to sell that one for a couple years, but he said recently he's thinking about leasing me the land. Then in a couple years when he's ready to sell, we may look into buying it and maybe rent the house to one of the kids or something..... so if I ever get them both to sell it'll put my place at about 40. I'd still need to lease or buy something else, but that'd make things a lot easier at home. But we're making it work for now. It works for the farm tax anyhow lol

Well, requested off two days this weekend for a Confirmation in Lincoln. But I guess we don’t have anything to move around the area that can get me back here in two days so instead of 2 days off I now have 4.5 days off.

Have fun y’all, see you Monday.

New record for me. 696.7 miles. That was over mountainous terrain, dealing with Vegas traffic, and general California BS 20230504_170149.jpg

Anyone ever load at Miss Me/Sweet People Apparel in Vernon, south of downtown LA? FCFS 8-5. Going back to Kearney. It's pretty straight forward how to get to the immediate area but it looks a bit questionable after that. Planning on dropping this load in Victorville at 9 am so I can get into the valley after rush hour and hopefully miss the vast majority of traffic.

If that is the place I am thinking of, it's not too bad. The streets and the customer location are a bit tight, though.

Speaking of Victorville, that's where I am headed this weekend from KC after I drop my load outta the house from Henderson NC. That's been my east west pattern lately. Henderson to KC back to Four Oaks NC. Rinse and repeat so I was shocked to get a Cali load. First in three years. Planning on running 54 to Tucumcari then 40 across to 15. Looking at Google maps and showing that the road is closed near Needles. Been under a rock. Not crazy about carrying a 44k pet food load to Cali with the bridge law. Don't deliver until Tuesday. Still nice to get outta my circle for a change. Any advice is appreciated. Feel like a newbie all over again!

I have hauled 45k+ into CA with no issues. CA isn't near as bad as people think it is. I worry more about the reefer haulers coming out the central, imperial, and owens valleys than anything at the scales, or anything to do with CHP. Those fools are just horrible drivers with ZERO sense or situational awareness. They park all along I-40 seemingly without regard to how narrow the shoulder is, whether they are just past a blind curve, or that THERE IS A TRUCK STOP.....RIGHT....THERE...That kind of BS is a bit of a pet peeve of mine.

It's been the same with me except opposite. Most of my runs have been Lincoln/KC to SoCal and back.

As for the route, I'd strongly recommend taking 56 over 54 through Kansas. Much less traffic and much less hair pulling and yelling choice words are required. 54 should be 4 lane from Wichita to at least Dalhart, if not to Tucumcari, but it's not.

The only section of 56 that's somewhat busy is where it's overlapped with US-50 from Kinsley to Dodge City. East of Kinsley through Great Bend is not too bad, and there's not much happening on 156 from there thru Ellsworth to 70. West of Dodge City is pretty quiet. Once you get into far southwest Kansas, the highway is pretty much deserted all the way to 25 in NM. Unlike 54.

Time and distance wise, it's a wash.

Couldn't agree more, one of my favorite lanes. Love the ride between Clayton and Springer, NM
