Hires company drivers and owner operators.

Showed me a contract telling me it was exactly what I was going to sign in the end- but it was not. As they added charges in the final contract.
I went as an owner operator. They quickly placed a camera on my truck in which I barely accepted. They took my decals off my truck and put theirs all on the first day.
On the second day I was surprised with the contract not being like the first one they sent me. This one had several different $500 dollar charges and a contract that says they keep ALL YOUR MONEY if 30 days notice is not given to cancel contract before or after the year is up. And many more charges in the contract that my head was spinning.
Rude lying employees that got me angry and nobody cared if I complained of such abusive treatment. I had been approved to work for them. After so much insanity of course I told them no I will not work with them I will not sign contract. I was very polite and they even told me I was very polite. But in the end I was rude to whoever was rude to me I felt abused and disrespected.
When I took their decals off with my bare fingers I noticed their fleet manager damaged my truck in removing my decals initially.
And he covered it up with a large sticker. I will definitely be taking them to court for damages to my truck. I am currently looking for an attorney to represent me. Hopefully I can find one and it is not a matter of money but who will take the case if not I will represent myself. I will make them liable for court costs and my attorney fees additionally to the damages to my truck.

I have included pictures of the damage they caused. Fleet manager sprayed a harsh chemical to remove my decals then covered the damage up with a new sticker. You can see how the paint is bubbled. And how the damage is visible under the sticker before it is removed completely. I have a couple of pictures before he worked on my truck too that looks completely different and how the previous decals looked smooth. I am saving those for the judge to see.

Geeze I guess this is trucking nowadays. A guy needs to spend $$ to hire a contract lawyer just to get a job driving from point A to point B.

I mean if you own a company and sign contracts without getting a lawyer to go over the contract, you might want to reevaluate owning a business.

I guess that's why I'm not an owner operator. I didn't realize it was that complex to sign on with a company.

I've encouraged friends that did lease purchase or lease operator to go over those contracts with an attorney many times over. You gotta cover your behind. Not only that, sometimes the language may not be all that clear to some of us regular Joes. I can't imagine not having an attorney in my back pocket if I were a business owner, even if it's simply to call and ask questions about contracts that may appear off kilter.

How much does it typically cost to consult with a qualified attorney to give their opinion and/or submit their modifications to one of these owner-op contracts?

A lot less than the amount a crooked carrier can rip you off and get away with.

I honestly couldn't tell you. I'll bet the price to have a lawyer beats the hell out of working for free with these companies, because drivers get a string of checks in the red. I've seen drivers not get a check for more than a month fooling with lease purchase or with companies that are crooked, because they are in the negative.
