Wow. I imagine she is a reliable and valuable driver otherwise. It would be very hard for me to not put her back in the auto tho. I guess she really wants to learn how to drive a manual tho so thats a good thing really.
Take your foot off the clutch while driving!

Id think the problem with using the shifter as an arm rest is you might accidentally bump it out of gear or maybe after a longggg time might cause something to wear out more quickly.
Some roads Ive driven you had to hold that puppy or the bumps would regularly throw the shifter out of gear. Never had any issues because of it. Dunno.FerrissWheel, Coffey, okiedokie and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'd bust their arm if I caught somebody don'n that in my truck .. its hard on the shift tower its hard on the shifting forks it just hard on the trans all around .. same goes for the non cool tall shiftersLast edited by a moderator: Jun 4, 2023

I have said this many times. I learned how to drive a truck back when I was a teenager. I was in an old split shift Mack and my father would hit me if I missed a shift or did something silly like this. My father was not a mean man, but he was determined that I had a skill I could use later in life. My father passed on in the late 90s. About a year before he died he went with me from his north Georgia home to make a drop and hook. I noticed his gaze as I drove. That place in Atlanta required an S turn going backward to get the trailer spotted correctly. I will never forget how intimidated my dad made me while I did that back. I messed that back up badly and had to redo it 2 times. On the way home we stopped at the Petro in Carnesville Georgia and he bought my meal. he started laughing and said if I could have reached you I would have smacked you. I know I am morphing this topic. This subject reminds me of something I have always hated. People that drive automatics (POVs) and use their left foot to brake. My daughter does that. I thought I had broken her from doing it, but since she has come back to visit the other day I noticed she was using her left foot again. Generally, people that learned on manuals don't do this.

Left foot braking feels weird unless you're in a forklift.

Maybe she’s short and her feet dont reach to the floor of the truck cause she needs the seat up high? Maybe she needs a block of wood or something to rest her foot on. This just seems like such a crazy thing to do I keep thinking there has to be a reasonable explanation lol.

Wow, why would anyone do that when there's a perfectly good dash board to rest your foot on?
