They certainly look better with stacks and no lower fairings. But Daseke bean counters won’t approve of that. We need every bit of aerodynamic advantage while I’ll pulling a 15’ wide brick down the road.

I see small popout covers for the tow hooks, they just need to mount a rack in those so the OD fleet can mount their folding signs.

We are moving all the boeing owned material from Santa Fe springs to park city Ks. It was two extrusion and 3 loads of plate a day, 5 days a week. But that was a few weeks ago. That’s how I got this gem.

It has been an interesting day. My unload was at a power substation that was being expanded. To get to it you had to go down a narrow winding 2 lane to another narrow road, to a gate that says 'no trespassing'. Go thru that gate to another gate with security. After you check in with him, you proceed down a really narrow winding road with really steep grades. At the end of that road is the substation. But, before you go thru another fenced in area under all the power lines and transformers and high voltage power lines, you have to completely unstrap your load, then follow one of the contractor's people into the secured area where they unload you, and since I don't wear the special electrical protective clothing, I wasn't allowed to exit the truck while in the power station's danger zone. I was unstrapped, unloaded and back out of danger before I could get in a 30. After I got out of there, I find a place to do a 30, then head to the Rancho yard. I am told to drop my flatbed and hook up to an extendable RGN, and make sure it slides. There is only 2 that are empty on the yard. RGN #1, hook up to it so it will slide, and nothing...just dragging the tires. Call @kylefitzy to get any ideas on what I might be doing wrong...turns out, I wasn't doing anything wrong, the gladhand on the neck was cracked and was leaking bad enough the pins wouln't retract. RGN #2(different model), hooked up, went to slide and it gave me a fight. Backed it up in front of the shop, and we found an air leak in it as well. Got the airleak fixed, but those pins wouldn't retract. After investigating, the air switch is bad. Oh, and the back strobes wouldn't work. They call the trailer mechanic to pick up a new air switch while he is at the parts counter getting the new special gladhand for the other trailer (that has a built in shutoff valve). While he is fixing the valve, we are tracking down wires. He gets the air valve replaced. We test it, and it works. Then he heads to work on the other trailer. Now WE dig into the electrical issue with the strobes. Track down all the wires, find a bad ground, fix it, but that wasn't it. Pull the main power that feeds the toggle switch and connect each light directly, and each one blinks....off to the parts store for a switch. Go to install the switch, and we don't have the right size connectors for the screws, use what we have and heat shrink over the screws so everything stays connected and dry and now I have strobes. Put everything back together and while I am putting one of the tail lights back in the rubber grommet, it slips some and I catch my thumbnail on the edge of the grommet and fold the top 1/3 my thumbnail backwards. Anyway, both trailers are fixed, and now I wait to get my load info. What I am being told is it will be another over width, over height and needs to be loaded on a slightly stretched RGN going all the way to KS. It has been and interesting couple weeks, but again, they're keeping things interesting.

@kylefitzy, what is the usual routing for this load? 15 -> 40 to Tucumcari then US routes to Wichita?

You should be a comedian! 15-40 to Gallup, nm. North to shiprock, east to Bloomfield, south East to ABQ, east past Tucumcari to NM 469. then it’s a relatively normal route. Oklahoma can get creative across the panhandle.

Plans are off on that OD load. He said the permit for Cali alone will be 48 hours because they're reviewed. But, at least whomever gets the load will have a working RGN. They're working on another load for me. If it's a legal load, then there is no curfews so I can run on my own preferred schedule.
