Seems like u already answered your own question. Crete prehired me. The pay is .31 cents a mile. 8 weeks training at 500 dollars per week. Heck, once u get 1 or 2 years experience, there will be better opportunities than Crete.

They are #### crooks! .25 a mile and you have to pay back the school? When I first came out of school almost 10 years ago I got .30 a mile. Check out Millis Transfer. They have gotten a little crappy lately, but there really aren't any good non union companies left. They have a school and will pay better than SPAM.

My advise is to get the training through unemployment. Let the state pay for school. If you go to a company and it doesn't work out then you will have to pay them back. If you are going into this field, try to get the best start you can because it will only get harder for the first year.

I started with Crete right out of school in '08.They paid .34 at that time. Very sad to see all these companies cutting pay when they know everyone is hurting.

When hubby first started driving-about 5 yrs ago-he also looked into McElroy. They were a runner up with him but he decided on Crete. I can't remember if they trained or not-but they did take newbies. From what I've heard, going with a company that trains you can be a mistake. If NJ offers training thru a Career workshop-that would be your best bet-then you are not under anyone's thumb.

Hope you didn't do your safety meeting during your 34...the last one I went to they made you log it on line 4...which would screw up a 34. But they won't catch it until the next audit...then get-cha' again.

I've offered to do that many times, but operations always says nada...Crete's system and Shaffer's system are in the same house, but Crete op's has to call up/down stairs to Shaffer's op's...The only time I hear about any switching trailers is when one side is in a tight pinch for a load to be moved, and we get the 'do me a favor' message.

found a local job where I am home every night and work 6 days a week. I gross over 1,000.00 a week now. It's steady but I might go back OTR if freight picks up and I cannot transfer my position down to GA. Wife wants to go someplace warm.
