And no telling what took out the front tire.... Dry rot? Low Pressure? Road debris?

Even if the powers that be find out, doubt the media would tell the story.

 

But it's like Dave said, they pretrip nothing. Kick the tire, light the fire. I'm sure that it being like 120 degrees out didn't help either.

 

I noticed that too. Just imagine if it had been the other way around and OD had blown a steer tire and hit the rv. The company would be sued, lawyers everywhere, DOT auditing the company, more media attention. But, since the rv was at fault we only heard about it because a family was killed. The truck driver was an afterthought, and we won't hear anything again. Very sad, that man was just doing his job, I'm sure he leaves a family behind, and hardly any mention of him.

My answer

 

To siphon off $$$$$$$$ from the Los Angeles and tourist crowd.

A few years back I would plan to drop 100 to 150 for a decent room near the convention center. Why I would try to roll with a second or third person.

They do trade shows and conventions that drag in more people than around 100k people. Snagging a bit of that free flowing money is a good bet.
That's why the Hoffa crowd was investing... Even when overly regulated they can still make money nowadays.
