No longer owned by UPS. They were sold to TFI in 2019, I believe.

    Rideandrepair and Cardfan89 Thank this.

Ok, I just looked at the ad. All no touch freight. Possible 6 day work week. I imagine that might mean close to 60 hrs. Rather 5 days. 47 mile commute each way. I’ve done it before. Makes for a long day.

    dwells40 and LtlAnonymous Thank this.

Yeah, that's rough. But maybe you make the decision to move closer to the terminal if it's good enough.

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

    Welp,

I took your guy's advice to heart. I got enough bad vibes that I turned down the 1099 job. This would have immediately put me back into a driver's seat but it didn't feel right at all. I walked off the job the same day I was supposed to start, the prospects of no benefits and being responsible for saving up for my own taxes was not for me. The other issue is I am LTL. What could I possibly know about loadboards or driving a sleeper cab? I was setting myself up for failure. The guy was pretty pissed.

I took the non-driving position and officially passed all the written tests today. What a four hour ordeal that was. Not gonna lie, I've been dealing with some serious depression since everything went down with Yellow so anything new to keep my mind occupied is going to help.

Not sure when or even if I will drive again. But I want to thank all of you on here that reached out one way or another.

All things being equal? Unless you get a unicorn job/business deal, trucking absolutely sucks. Most people are better off in other industries.

There is going to be a spike in workload after this. Yellow kept the rates artificially low. Up to 30% low. The rest of you guys get to absorb this with no pay raises any time soon. Cause you are also absorbing our unemployed workforce.

It's going to be a sticker shock for shippers, but also a reality check to our drivers that got to enjoy high wages and benefits. Those benefits will not be available in non union companies. At least not to this level.

The country is going through a recession. I think I will see myself on the other side of the industry until things stabilize.

Well fortunately, I saw the writing on the wall and got out of LTL in 2015. I knew that ABF seeking a giveback because of Yellow's low pricing was a harbinger of doom.

I'm now also in a (mostly) non-driving position. And just today, I had two folks still at FXF call me for advice on their routes--which I gladly gave them; they're good folks and I don't want them to get in the soup. But I'm wondering if I should charge FXF a consulting fee if it keeps up...

All you can do is hand in invoices.

You've never been positioned to give bad advice. I've always benefited from what you had to say. Put on a second hat and monetize your skill set.
