Now back to trucking. I made it home. Out of Joisey, I hauled another broker load. A super light load of solor panel frames, and one small pallet of components to Orlando. The pallet of components was the only thing that had to be tarped. Delivered that Thursday and was home by 14:00, more than a day earlier than requested which means I leave back out a day earlier next week. Not complaining, living in FL as a truck driver, you take what you can get to get home as close to your requested home time as you can get.

So far it has taken me 2 days to get one of the big trees cut up that were knocked down by the hurricane. I'm not that slow, the first one I am working on was 100+ feet high and was around 36" across at the base, and I only have a 22" saw...and it is the smaller one, not sure I will be able to cut the other one with the equipment I have. Looking back, we were fortunate in this storm, the county to the northwest of us (Suwannee county) still has places where the power is still out because it is so rural and the population is so spread out. The National Guard is going out and delivering water and MRE's to folks who are still waiting for electricity restoration.

What kind of trees do y’all have in Florida? I have a 50’ tall standing dead tree I need to take down at some point. It’s on the round to it list.

I'm not sure what kind this is, but in my area we have a lot of old oak, cherry and some maple. I just know the heart of this tree is hard. The bigger diameter one that got knocked down is a live oak (water oak). We also have gum and cypress. And I have taken down some decent size magnolia which are crooked as a barrel of guts. I don't have many pines on my property, but the guy up the street lost 13 pine trees which conveniently fell across the road and blocked it for a couple days.

Depends on where you live in Florida. The panhandle and north of Ocala has different soil, grasses and trees than what you can find in Southern Florida generally speaking. I live in about the middle in Winter Haven-Dundee area along US 27.

My turn to ##### about pretarped loads. Made it 2400 of the 2800 miles on this trip and the middle tarp came untucked from the front. Luckily it was bungeed very well, just none really pulling forward. A couple of 1” straps should keep it in place until delivery.

The local driver padded some spots and not others, in his defense these pre wrapped loads are hard to see all the sharp spots. He did use comically small pieces of carped though, one piece was literally 4” square. IMG_5845.jpeg IMG_5844.jpeg
Still better then doing the work myself.

And the carpet padding he used probably wasn't secured to the load. That preloaded/tarped CNC machine I had so many tarp problems with had plenty of padding, which was laying on the deck of the trailer because nothing was used to hold it in place.

I sure do not miss my early days of flatbed trucking with tarped loads.

More new equipment spotted on the Ohio turnpike. I really like the securement options these j plates provide. Much more secure then just throwing a strap from side to side.

After untarping last night I see what the local driver did. He did have the padding secured, just probably could have used some More tape. Nothing a little glue and patching can’t fix.
