With refer you'll have more stops than van usually, that's why it pays more, including the fact that you also have to fuel the refer and monitor the temp at all times.

I would go with the fridges. That way you can still do both. If refer freight gets slow you can pull a dry van. If you are on van, you can only pull a van. One down side to refer on the east coast is that there is not a lot of drop and hooks. I guess too many refer trailers have gone missing out there.

    rockfish469 Thanks this.

In refers there is a lot of sitting around at receivers. There were very few if any drop and hooks. But as bucks had said if you go refer you can always pull dry if things are slow.

Do you receive extra pay When sitting at recievers? How long in one division would you have to wait to switch if you wanted to switch? How many miles does reefers run on average, and also typical time out for someone living in pa.Sorry i have many questions.Does the noise affect slepping,or just like most things you get use to it in time? How often during a run do you check your temps? What type of products does roehl pull in reefers and how many staes for pick ups and drop offs,Canada?Do you have to unload? Thanks for repliing, your imput helps.

I was not a refer so I can't answer all of your questions. If I recall, once you enter your Quacomm message 3 the clock starts ticking and after either 1-2 hours you can start claiming detention time. It's like x amount of dollars for every 30 or 60 minutes. I know a few drivers who don't claim detention time because the company will keep most of the money and give you the pocket change. As far as time out it's usually 11 days and home 3, if I recall. You'll get use to the noise of the refer but most drivers that don't pull refer aren't so you could make a lot of enemies everynight whereever you park. As far as temps, I think there's a Quacomm message for the set temp and you're required to monitor that temps at all time; if something goes wrong those refers are hooked up to satelitte and will ping Roehl and then they'll notify you of a problem and likely chew your ### out for not monitoring it closely enough. HTH.

Speaking of missing refers, Roehl had a refer of oatmeal went missing a while ago, as mentioned, those refers are linked to a satellite and they located that refer and had the state police waiting for the driver of that stolen refer. There are kingpin locks you're suppose to use, esp for high dollar loads, I recall you're not suppose to unhook a trailer and leave it sit unattended without FM approval and a kingpin lock.
