Actually thought about that too but instead of driving back by it just go out the north road to 287N and keep rolling.

    Col Springs.

My other option is the NM. They have a 34320 limit and with my 400# exemption Id be okay. I just hate going over the pass and burning more fuel.

He would slide his trailer tandems back a notch or two.
What’s the big deal? All this talk about avoiding scales when there isn’t a problem.
    Geesh……

In case you’re unaware this is a car hauler forum. Auto haulers don’t have sliding tandems, but thanks for thought.

One time I went through Boise City with my trailer at 35200. Loaded in Sterling, Colorado, road south of Brush was closed because of snow, so I went straight south. Scale at Lamar was closed. There was a younger boy scout at the window in Boise City who pulled me in. Went inside, older hand at the desk asked if I had scaled. I admitted I had not, but I didn't make any excuses for it either.

The experienced guy let me slide tandems and go on my way. I could tell it pissed off the boy scout but the older guy ignored him. He told me they don't normally bother you for 1000 pounds as long as you're not over gross. YMMV. I realize you can't slide tandems.

Raton Pass might not be the best route today by the way. Lots of snow a couple days ago.
