I would make every attempt to allow the company to return your $2500 before pursuing other options.
Chicago based 1099 outfits are well known as a stain on this industry.
The beauty and ugliness of this country, is capitalism. It’s a double edged sword. There will be 10 more drivers lined up to drive for that company after you.
Now you’ve found a better place to come to for information, you can plan a better future for yourself and family. There’s many helpful members and threads here.
America has been very good to me, I cannot (or should not) complain. -
Coffey, tscottme, Big Road Skateboard and 1 other person Thank this.

I have a question???
What did that company tell you that the $500/week escrow was for?
BTW, bet on not getting the money back. And I would blast them on every social media and trucker platform that exists. -
TripleSix Thanks this.

tscottme Thanks this.

Well I was sure not to make any damages, or violations and I have none of them. I returned back their truck safely and just said want to quit my job. Looks like labor board state can’t assist me as a 1099 conductor. Not sure if the lawyer can help me.

OK here is the thing - NEVER work as a 1099 driver.
Second get a lawyer involved. I know this is going to sound bad but you as an immigrant can get reduced cost or free legal advice while citizens can't. There is nothing wrong with taking advantage of those services, seeing that this is an abusive labor practice, you have to seek it out, BUT if you can afford one, get a labor lawyer involved and have them file to sue the company/owners and AMAZON.Crude Truckin', Bud A., Coffey and 3 others Thank this. -
Employee MisclassificationJB7, Coffey, tscottme and 1 other person Thank this.
