Well, I think it's important for all to watch this, but we have to remember, LEOs are human, and I don't think they should have to say they're sorry. They risk their very lives, and should be cut some slack. Did the trooper screw up? Of course, same thing happened in my little town. A local cop, in hot pursuit, made a U-turn right in front of a 4 wheeler, causing a crash. The irony there, is the perp got away, and the local cop got a ticket. Point is, this kind of thing is going to happen and this truck driver was just in the wrong place. This doesn't alter my feelings on LEOs, they have an incredibly difficult job.

The crooked cop’s punishment is retirement with full benefits. Man that’s harsh. Lol. At least he’s not working anymore I suppose.

No accountability for their actions since there are no consequences.
In their minds they do no wrong.

Leo’s still have to abide by the same laws, most believe they’re above the law.
Driving 90+ in a 70 in left lane, who will stop them?

    We’re a police state.
They can come take anything you have, when they want with eminent domain.

Town i live i did that a few years back, had a few trailer parks in city limits, the fathers decided it made the town look bad, they declared eminent domain, if you didn’t leave they’d bulldoze them in X amount of days.
They did bulldoze, haul off debris in city dump trucks, put a lil concrete pavilion up, 2 porta toilets, call it a park.
    City land now.

It's not the screw up, it's the cover up.

    • "We smelled alcohol",
    • The citation written despite their accident investigator saying it wasn't warranted,
    • Opening up a "more detailed" investigation looking for a more favorable response
    • The sergeant lying about the trooper being "seriously injured"
    • Charges getting dropped almost instantaneously after a local news outlet starts investigating
The accident was a screw up, costly for everyone involved, but it is one of those things. Everything that happened after the accident is criminal.

........ and if he did this, what else did he do that he got away with?

I agree with some others that I appreciate the work they do. It really IS a tough job. But it wasn't the mistake here, it was the cover up. It was the intent. Its excusable to make a mistake. But intent is not a mistake. Then becomes a cover up.

In this case, as is in most cases I'm sure, the sgt did this knowing it was wrong & with no regard for what it would have cost the trucker. Not only the ticket, insurance increases etc, but possibly losing his CDL.... the ticket to his livelihood, especially in the short term.
The trooper had no regard for the truckers future costs (not just monetarily).
In this case, the trucker should have sued the trooper for part of his retirement. Simply because the trooper had no regard for the truckers financial future, he should have been in turn sued to lessen his financial future.

And again, I just can't get out of my mind....... if the trooper did this, what else did he do within the scope of his employment as a trooper, and get away with it? Who else's livelihood did he screw up without regard to their wellbeing?

The law allows them certain exceptions when necessary to diacharge their duties.

For example, they can drive above the speed limit, close a lane on a roadway, travel through a red light after clearing the intersection, and so on.

This you could make an argument for. You have no business going full Barney Fife on anyone if you’re too good to live by the same rules.

I can even somewhat agree on the “police state” part, but the eminent domain isn’t the officer’s doing. People get what they vote for.

The Kelo v. New London decision didn’t help matters any either.
