After a slight delay, I’m finally getting my Class A!
I am thrilled to make this step and looking forward to the open road! Currently enrolled at 160 driving Academy in South Chicago Land. Permitted this week! I have lots of questions!

A little background. USAF vet. 34 yrs male no disabilities. I don’t foresee any issues that would prevent me from working anywhere.

I’ve been researching, plan to have my X and T endorsements on my license before employment. I fully expect to pass my road test on the first try and should be licensed July/Aug. Clearinghouse is showing no records. MVR is clean since 2018.

    : A few questions

    - Should I try to move/work in a tax free state?
(IL is 5%) If yes, please tell me how that works.

    - Who the heck should I work for, maybe more importantly where should I NOT work?

    - What is your single best piece of advice for someone in my position?

    - What questions should I be asking?

    - What are realistic expectations?

    Muchas Gracias!

Yes, move to a tax free state. I recommend South Dakota & Nevada.
    `
    South Dakota is the easiest.
Nevada you must show a legal address and change the address on your CDL, plus new fingerprints for Hazmat endorsement.

    Applying for Domicile State Status
The process for applying to have a South Dakota residence which can qualify you for domicile state status is easy and straightforward.

All you have to do is:

    • Have a permanent address, which you can either arrange on your own or with the help of a mail forwarding company
    • Have a driver’s license or similar form of identification
    • Fill out and submit the necessary paperwork
    • Be there in person to submit and receive documentation
    • Renew your information when necessary
    • Stay in South Dakota the day you apply for domicile state status
    • After you have obtained domicile state status, visit and stay in South Dakota for a single contiguous 24-hour block at least once every few years, with five years being the outside maximum time allowed between visits
Once you have established your status, you’ll be eligible for all manner of tax benefits offered by the state. With the help of mail forwarding companies, setting up a residence in South Dakota has never been easier.

Thanks for the encouragement. I’m looking into SD. Some people on YouTube make it seem REALLY easy. Is it actually that simple. One guy says all I have to do is stay in a hotel for one night and rent a mail box. Then proceed to DMV next day with necessary paperwork and they will hand me a new SD license on the spot.

Don't register to vote in South Dakota, because you'll need an actual residence such as apartment, house, condo, trailer.

No, you can work for any trucking company in the USA that has South Dakota in their hiring area.
