I was at the Greer terminal once and there was a young guy sitting in the lounge area. He was a black guy but his face looked really red and he look ill at ease. I struck up a conversation with him and he told me he had bumped the trailer behind him while backing into a parking space. When the other truck pulled out he noticed one of the tail lights hanging out. So he called safety and reported it. Swift took his truck away and made him sit in the drivers lounge all day every day for a solid week as punishment.
Some companies make the consequences for an incident so grossly exceed the seriousness of the incident itself that they make it worth the risk just not reporting it.
I was driving through Houston one hot summer day when the red and yellow lights started flashing on the dash. So I got on my GPS and found a truck stop close by. After parking I called Swift OnRoad and was told the terminal is only a few miles away and to drive there. The truck didn't make it. I ended up stalled in five o'clock traffic right where the Pasadena freeway splits from the 610 loop. Swift put this on my record as a non-preventable accident. When I asked what makes this an accident they said it was because a tow truck was called.
So it's not just that they can be unbelievably petty. They can also be completely arbitrary.
I'll never be a company driver again. Doesn't matter what it pays.blairandgretchen, Iamoverit, TX2Day and 5 others Thank this. -
