Schneider left a voicemail, it was hard to hear, cut in and out. I had to listen to it 5 times just to figure out it was them. Roehl just called. Very clear message. Pleasant voice. I know who I’m calling back first.

From everything I’ve seen so far and been told by kind people like you, Roehl seems like a far better company to drive for than big orange

Just a quick Update. I'm testing on August 1st. Roehl stated that they are no longer accepting students from 160 driving academy, that started last week. TMC immediately asked me to do something illegal. They demanded my tax returns. Western, USX, Schneider, CR England and more still in contact with. Will send out about 15 more applications once I have the license in hand.

I'm learning quite a bit about the application process. One thing that has been a problem for me is the previous three years. Everyone asks, and if it's not perfect, it might as well be a felony. Their brains explode and they cannot comprehend that it's possible to have done anything other than work at company for those three years. Knowledge

Several people have been talking in multiple other recent threads about how tight the job market is getting in truck driving and I would surmise that this extends to the hiring of brand new drivers with no experience. Roehl probably would want you to go through their GYCDL program now because they know if you pass what they can expect from you as a driver and also because it puts you, the driver, behind the eight ball in terms of owing them $7,000 unless/until they allow you to finish the contract. When I left Roehl in May 2023 loads were getting scarce and countless drivers I communicated with were all complaining about it. I don't want to imagine how much worse things might be getting a year later. I've heard stories about people having their gycdl contract dragged out to over 2 years before they could complete it.

Best of Fortune to you and anyone else looking to get into truck driving or to switch into something different right now. I am super picky and it took me over 2 months of searching recently to find the right fit in terms of a new job I wanted to get into.

I do believe the market is tight right now. And probably going to get worse before it gets better. I’d like to be picky but it looks like it’s take what you can get out there right now. Roel did try to enroll me into the GYCDL, but when I told them I’m in school they couldn’t wait to get me off the phone. Things are tight everywhere. They can’t even afford new drivers unless they’re locked into a contract! Or else they just don’t need new drivers! Either way, not great.

I don’t mind going somewhere for 6 months knowing I’ll be leaving before the years up. It’s not ideal but gotta do what I gotta do in this economy. Wouldn’t be bad to see the way things are not supposed to be, before finding something better I suppose.
