Don’t beat yourself up. You’re already taking steps to improve yourself.

Though the job market is tough now - have you ever considered LTL like ODFL , Fed Ex etc?

Oh heck yeah. I've been interested in that for awhile. We have OD in Mobile and Estes is right across the road from the Aldi warehouse where my terminal was. I know a few Estes drivers that do it and they seem pretty happy with the work balance and the pay.

I either wouldn't have reported it or would have called dispatch and said; "That trailer you sent me to get has some kind of problem with the axle so I don't think it's safe to pull."

Yeah... till now I was definitely on the other side of the fence and would have said always report. I don't know now. I thought I was doing the right thing.

The drivers that take the job most seriously feel the worst when something happens. You know if you did or did not cause the damage. You should not feel more shame or tragedy than you created. Just move on. You can't control random events or the actions of others. Your value does not reside in this one event. Things will get better.

In trucking, honesty is not always the best policy. I've seen several drivers career get derailed or downgraded because they temporarily put a halo on their head and then talked too much.

It was mainly the loss. Dumb as it might sound, I really felt a connection to driving for that company. I guess I just got too invested into it.

Well - the message is usually in old Westerns - you gotta sleep straight at night, and right or wrong, tell the truth.

@Wrongway21 - I felt the same leaving ODFL after 7 years of service. They couldn’t give a rats rear end when we left - I believe there were many there that hoped we would fail. Just because they couldn’t make the decisions we did.

When you believe you have more to give and offer than what you are rewarded for at a job - it’s time to gear up and move on.

F ‘em. Steer your own ship.
