I’m a nurse and was looking to invest in a business. My brother who was a company driver told me about getting a truck and etc. so I did it, two years ago and it has been my biggest mistake.
I have left so many jobs because I’m trying to dispatch and do clerical work.
My brother doesn’t want to book loads days I have to work or talk to mechanics about maintenance and repairs. He leaves it to me. I feel like if I don’t do anything, the company will fail. He will stay parked in the truck instead of booking loads.

I’ve lost $30k so far by having to not work and book loads and having to work night shift. Sometimes I work night and I’m only getting 2 hours of sleep. We were under a company and got an mc a few months ago. All which I paid. He doesn’t save money so I have to come up with everything. I made $90k before this business and now only making $39k. I’m exhausted and don’t know any options. I’ve hired a dispatcher and they quit because he’s picky. Please don’t lecture me. Just looking for advice on how to get things better.

Kick him out and sell for whatever you can get for the equipment.

Just get out. Sell it and get back to taking care of yourself. It's NOT going to get any better.

It won’t get any better, he won’t run, truck/trailer/insurance cost goes on.
I book loads, used to for 3 trucks and me.
Then juggling and remembering who had off this day or needed back this other day.
You’ll always get one who once they’ve made a check, they don’t care if the truck does.

    Easy solution.

My advice comes with a lecture, you can read it or ignore it but you should read it and take the advice.
OK here is the thing, you never ever get into any business with a relative or a friend. More relationships are ruined because of it.

So here is what you need to do.

    1 - get a lawyer, a tax lawyer.

2 - tell your brother that he is fired, he is not stepping up and he needs to.

3 - put the truck up for sale, get rid of it, and close the business (if you have one).

3 is where the tax lawyer comes into the picture, you need him to plan on how to deal with the tax liability.

    YES, you will lose money.

No, there is no hope of fixing the problem with a lazy driver who refuses to step up.

Yeah, sell the truck, kiss your brother goodbye and go back to your normal life. Things will never improve with your current setup

Consult a CPA experienced in trucking and sell the truck.

Have you talked to to your brother? I have a feeling you might get 6 weeks out of him then it will go back to normal. Tell him your going to sell the truck and see what he says.

Sell the truck. Quit being a victim for your brother. Kick his butt out.
