Ghost ports load the trucks without manual labor. It's all done by computers. A giant port only needs about 10 employees.
Unions & politicians are fighting building ghost ports.
'Ghost port': Asia's first fully-automated port begins
May 13, 2017 — Seven of the world's busiest container terminals are in China but now, one of them is completely void of workers. The eastern port of Qingdao is home to Asia's first fully-automated port, Qingdao New …

Pretty much this. I have enough in my oh #### account to survive a month or two without work. But for every week i dont work thats 3 weeks more i gotta work to save up for my new engine. Things are cut throat enough and while im doing way better then many. Doing better comes with costs too.

Besides do you really think a strike would work? We have open borders. If truckers said naaaah and went on strike. The government would simply offer MORE huge tax breaks and more bennys to illegals and WE would be replaced in 48 hours. Then they would fast track and dump billions into self driving trucks using this as an example of why and trucking as an industry save for ultra specialized stuff would be dead in a few years at most. This aint the 30s and 40s. This is today were they can and WILL replace you at the drop of a hat and which is already starting to be on the way out.

Right now that process will take years maybe decades. Kick the bucket over amd it will be months and years instead.

Edit: hit post before i was done.

I wouldn't piss on a Longshoreman if they were running at me on fire. Today's unions are nothing like the ones that originally formed. In my opinion they are nothing but whiney ### crybabies.

Well pal, I hear ya', I'm no union man myself, when I had my one and only union job, I felt so out of place, but the stark reality is these folks hold all the cards and could indeed cripple our economy. These container ships mostly have products for that stupid X-mas shopping, and like it or not, the workers still have a lot of clout. This is the peak of shipping and buying season, and they know it. Pressure is on the president to intervene, perhaps as a last ditch shot in the arm for his "side", but remember, it's not all video games and TVs, your Freightliner alternator is probably in there too. I see it mostly will affect the east coast, I wonder if L.A. will join in, as well. Long story short, give 'em what they want,,:biggrin_25514:,,as long as toilet paper still comes out of Green Bay, we should be okay,,;)

When you can't get two truck drivers to agree whether to use Sleeper Berth or Off Duty, how are you going to get them to agree to go on strike?

Its hard to find 2 drivers that could go 2 weeks without a paycheck. People are slaves to credit....
