    I left, barely made 90 days. Not for me. I’m still driving for another company.

    I was going to western. I made it all the way to Richmond hotel , turned around and drove back home lol. I’m having a hard time finding a company to take me. I have no criminal record and only one not a fault accident. My issue is I’ve been out of CDL school for 3 years and have no recent 53’ experience ‍♂️

    You should have gone to Western. You gotta get some experience, even if it sucks. If no other company is willing to take you, sometimes you gotta take what you can't get. Chi Town persevered through those 3 months, I'm sure you got 3 to 6 months in you, then you go to a better job. Sometimes in trucking, you gotta learn to like the taste of ####.

    Unfortunately getting a CDL and not using it within the first 2 months is one of the worst positions to be in. For some reason companies really don’t want that. I don’t know why exactly. I think you’re going to have a really hard time finding someone to take you. You’re no longer recent I guess , and they can’t pay for it and trap you into a contract either. On top of that these 2-4 weeks of the year Christmas/new year are the slowest hiring time of year. Things don’t really pick back up until January 15th. On top of that trucking is at the tail end of an ongoing 3+ year recession, which has not ended. On top of all that, if someone does take you, you’re looking at a minimum of 3 weeks living in another dudes truck and playing by his rules. 3 weeks is unlikely, you’re more often going to have around 6 weeks.

    I paid out of pocket for the hotel at western, it was absolutely disgusting in Nashville…cost of doing business.

    good luck buddy

    I remember a guy in Washington State that acquired a cdl, then couldn't decide which company to go to.
    Companies would approve him and send bus or plane tickets, then he'd change his mind. After a couple years of this, no one would even talk to him or return his phone calls. He was so insecure with himself, he just remained in the basement.

    @Carthiefninja

    On the other hand....

    I was able to score a CDL class "A" gig....after being out of school for almost 2 years.

    Some suggestions....based upon my experience:

    • If you don't already have them -- go back & get ALL the relevant CDL endorsements: tanker, hazmat...& doubles/triples. Also, pick up a TWIC card.
    • Fill out a complete application on-line with Schneider. If you live in NC -- Schneider has a terminal in Charlotte. It's a pretty good facility overall.

    I got my first CDL job after being out of school that long with Schneider, becuz:
    • I had ALL the relevant CDL endorsements; & becuz Schneider has so much freight to move, they were looking for drivers who had those endorsements (plus that TWIC)
    • Those endorsements show prospective employers that you are serious, & you mean business
    • Those endorsements will obviously make you a standout candidate -- from the pile of other applicants who don't have them
    Be sure to also apply with Swift & Werner as well...for the same reasons as mentioned above.
