Without telling the world, do you have some way to be getting better paying freight than all of the other new Owner-Ops? Rates are horrible. If your plan is to run with freight you find on the load boards, that strategy pays less than ever before. The brokers post the same load as 10-20 loads with slightly different pick-up/destinations with 10-20 prices and then works the price down to below the lowest of those phantom loads because the pick-up time is approaching or the day is coming to an end and the desperate O-O is tired of sitting. Not, to mention, many honest brokers won't even work with new authorities less than 90 days old. I hope your authority is old enough and your experience with brokers is sharp enough you know their gam as well as they do, or you have direct customers. In the past it was easier to jump in and fight your way to money. Do you have a trusted person who can monitor the load boards while you are driving or you expect to find loads and drive?

Just because you want to go out on your own doesn't mean this is a time when it makes sense to do that. Maybe you have the experience doing everything and are just a good truck away from success? I don't know. The truck isn't the only key to success.

The reputation of the MX-13 engines is well established. Look in the Owner-Op forum on this board or the net.

I loved every Volvo I ever drove. I drove them for 12-15 years. The only issues I had were niggling electrical items on comfort items. I got used to driving them with the low-importance Check Engine light, not the real-important Check Engine light. They ride like a cloud and have room like an apartment. I hated their first automatics, but most automatics 15-20 years ago were sketchy. I also worked for a big company with a shop on-site so it got great attention. I haven't the 1st idea about owning/maintaining Volvos, but LOVED driving Volvos.

Ok. Explain what you meant in your above statement about a t800 having a junk engine when literally the entire truck could be configured the same as W9 except for the hood. Because your statement made zero sense. You also didn’t respond when I asked what you’d recommend for a heavy spec lowboy truck since you claim the t800 is junk. Also what pre-99 truck are you currently driving? What are the specs?

MX13 needs to be purchased new or nearly new and the maintenance schedule needs to be followed to keep issues at bay. I also think there’s something to the 455 since I and others around me all have the 510 and haven’t experienced the issues people claim with the 455. My 2017 had 600k on it when I sold it and it’s still hauling milk. Current truck has 322k on it now. FCC is getting rid of some next gen 680’s with less miles that have had multiple sets of injectors put in them, meanwhile the only warranty stuff my truck has had is two injectors. One in July of 2023 and one this past July.

Mine was electrical issues. And those freaking plastic fittings the coolant lines.. i ended up putting truck for sale a 16 model, 815k mikes for only 15k, I got tired of messing with it. The year before i spent 18k at the dealer because they didn’t know how to fix it.. I’ll not own another one.
