Is it reasonable to ask for 6 weeks off?

Prius is a nice car. Lots of them here in Las Vegas. They don't get the credit they deserve.

 

Govt doesn't decide how many trucks or cars will be made or sold. Manufactures & consumers decide both independently of the other & the govt. The actions the govt has taken, like Cash For Clunkers, CAFE standards, mandating more & more expensive safety devices & their love affair with electric vehicles & wind & solar boondoggles argue against a "burn all the oil we can" argument. The population is increasing. To look at the govt & the economy & conclude the goal is consume more oil is a bit ridiculous. I was in the oil biz in a very minor way at a very small company getting crude oil out of the ground when a barrel was selling for $12-20 each. Every power plant has very expensive gear that raises enery prices to please the tree huggers, not the oil companies. Your view is 180 degrees from the facts. You want the govt deciding how many vehicles can be made & bought? I sure hope not.

 

Mpg isn't just accidentally improving because of some rare circumstances. The law requires it. There is a federal mandate that requires it & creates the schedule of when the next step will happen. That federal law brought about a whole new segment of the industry, crossover vehicles. They classify as light trucks/SUVs so they can benefit the manufacturer MPG budget. If they built the 4 passenger 4 cylinder as a sedan the sedan would be required to have an even better MPG which would be too expensive to sell (more exotic engineering for weight, aerodynamics, or powerplant).

Net Zero & Paris Climate Accord & similar efforts that are constantly being pushed at the US and sometimes succeeding are aimed at reducing use of "fossil fuels".

 

I’ve always said it isn’t so much the Prius that’s the problem. You can drive the car for almost free and if you take care of it will run 500,000 miles plus. I think its stigma comes from many who own it, rather than the car itself. The car does what cars are supposed to do and does it without complaint for a very long reliable time.

 

If you do tankers and apply for hazmat and twic. Haz and twic probably put you in 10% of the CDL holders. You already do flatbed, which shows your willing to work. Tankers is specialized, not hard but , but not everyone can do it. Van anyone can do it. You won't be making 30k a year probably 50 or 60 for the first 3 to 6 months. SNI advertises 1500 a week on average which is 75k. Call them and ask. You will probably have two weeks of training with them. On hooking up hoses and running the liquid pump, or air pumping it off by using the air compressor to pressurise the trailer. Tankers you only have back a few times a week, parking at night , tank washes, delivery in places with no four wheeler traffic. Many times you just pull thru. Not 8 times a day. Tankers will offer you more opportunities in the long run

You could tank, build up experience, and have enough money where your not starving to death. Clear 800 or 900 a week? Then after a year go to the oils field and haul flammables for a 120k a year. Or try to get in with loves with another 3+ months.

Welfare express isn't giving you enough funds to survive.

 

More bad news: with tanker duty, you'll also have to do a lot more than 3 -- 6 months to be considered "experienced".

Most tanker ads for experienced drivers want at least one year; a lot of 'em also want at least two....

The last Schneider tanker ad I saw suggested approx $1,100 -- $1,400 per week (gross).

As before, pay is based (in part, at least) on experience.

Schneider will definitely want a hazmat endorsement...& will at least encourage the TWIC.

The TWIC (plus the hazmat, obviously) got me my fuel-hauling job.
