Fremont County reported a woman dropped off at Grape Community Hospital said she had experienced domestic assault after she and her 1-year-old child were kidnapped in Nebraska by a male acquaintance.
The man then allegedly fled Nebraska law enforcement into Iowa.
The woman told deputies the man left the hospital with her child in the Kia. She also said he was suicidal and homicidal, per Fremont County.
When Fremont County informed the Iowa State Patrol of the situation, troopers headed toward the intersection of Highway 2 and Interstate 29.
Around 7:14 a.m., troopers located the Kia, which had no plates, and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
The Kia failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.
After doing a U-turn over a cement divider, the Kia was boxed in by troopers. Still, it escaped and began heading southbound on I-29 in the northbound lanes.
Iowa State Patrol troopers drove parallel to the suspect, southbound in the southbound lanes.
Fremont County deputies attempted to intercept the pursuit near mile marker 5.
After the suspect attempted to strike the deputies, one turned around and began following the suspect southbound in the northbound lanes with emergency lights activated, per Fremont County.
Iowa State Patrol troopers terminated their pursuit at the state line while Fremont County continued.
Just about one mile into Missouri — at mile marker 123 on I-29, north of Watson — the Kia smashed the front of a 2013 Ford Focus that was driving northbound on I-29.
The collision sent the Ford Focus off the roadway and it overturned, ejecting a passenger in the car.
A third vehicle, a Volvo semi-tractor, swerved to avoid hitting the Ford and Kia and slid off the roadway into the interstate median.
After striking the Ford, the Kia also left the roadway where it struck a bridge abutment and caught fire.
MSHP troopers said three 18-year-olds — all from Kearney, Missouri — were in the Ford Focus at the time of the crash. A male and female in the Ford were pronounced deceased at the scene. The third person in the Ford, a female, was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital in Omaha.
The driver of the Kia, a 29-year-old man from Bellevue, Nebraska, was also pronounced dead at the scene.
Fremont County said the deputy saved a 1-year-old from the burning Kia. The baby was airlifted to a hospital in Omaha with non-life-threatening injuries.”
Absolutely heartbreaking. Prayers to the teenagers and their families. I don’t want to imagine what was going through that Sheriff’s deputy’s head when he saw the collision
I can’t stress enough how horrific of a scene it was when i went by. i literally had to pull over at the rest area and take a few minutes to myselfLast edited: Nov 19, 2024

Interesting truck for sure.
Last year I drove up on and passed a Classic COE… she was a beaut. Someone put A LOT of TLC and elbow grease into her and boy she was pretty.

So, ended up on a Savannah load for Monday delivery. Fairly typical. I didn’t really need a 34 as I was hoping to only take one on Tuesday/Wednesday between this past weekend and thanksgiving but whatever.
So I drop SAV without a reload. Main guy there asked if I was getting reloaded there too. I didn’t know until after I left the dock and was sitting on the road that yup, I’d be reloading there too going back up to Ohio with another load of these new machines. But I had already left the dock so I was at the end of the line now. Five Hours later I was rolling. It was a cluster. I felt bad for the normal SAV crew as they are ALWAYS on their game but someone tossed wrenches into their normal flow with all these outbound loads.
So anyway, I was obviously not going to make 1600 next day so sent ETA of 0800 the following day and enjoyed the slow roll through the hills.
today I get an update on delivery. Now instead of FCFS, it’s an appointment for 1500… on 11/22.
I guess they were even less prepared to receive these loads in OH as the were in GA to ship them out.
So I’m shut down and after two days of slow rolling, I will now be babysitting these Big Boy Toys for another 2.5 days… LOL
I bet Kawasaki will be writing a big check for this Transport plus Three Day Mobile Storage plus Driver Babysitting Services.
Any good movies to suggest? -
