That's great advice. I'm going to call each of the companies and check out team stuff and see what they say. Thank you

Forgive me if I'm being naive, but would it be avoidable? Would I HAVE to do a lease purchase with them? Or could I just drive a company truck? We are completely new to trucking, so I assumed we would have pretty ####ty training from the start no matter what. It sounds like we should stay away from Prime

@dave01282000 was, past tense, a company driver with Prime. Maybe he'll read your thread and make some suggestions.

    No - not naive.

They have a errrrr “ Company Culture “ that has always given me the creeps.

Keep researching here, KCMO is a good location for you two.

I think Schneider is the best company to start with. They will send you to cdl school on their dime if you stick with them for 9 months. Most LTL jobs require a year experience anyways. Schneider also has the shortest time on the road with a trainer. You will only have to share a truck with a creepy weirdo for 4-5 days, versus 3-4 MONTHS with Prime. No thanks.

Schneider treated me great. They have van, flat bed, intermodal, tanker so you can move around and try different niches that interest you. I had nice new equipment and they never bothered me when I was otr. My loads came through on the tablet and I got them delivered. No micromanagement. No phone calls. Took home about $1,200 a week running my full 70.

Once you have a year experience you may want to run doubles for fed ex or ups. I hear a team running hard can make $240,000 a year with them. Good luck.

Regardless of what carrier you start out with -- you will likely find that your first year as a truck driver will suck pretty badly, because:

    • You are learning A LOT -- & getting used to A LOT....& mostly in a hurry with the learning process, as well
    • You will share a VERY CONFINED living & working space
    • You will learn to sleep in a moving/shaking big rig -- with a rookie driver at the controls
    • A good bit of this is likely to be OJT
If you are looking for something adventurous & a significant change from your office gigs -- then you have DEFINITELY found one option.

KC is a very good location to start in trucking.

But it's even better for great BBQ.... :tongue3:
