So out of curiosity how much would you say is drop and hook vs live loads and unloads?

Depends how you define drop and hook. A lot of the freight is drop and hook at one end, live at the other. Kawasaki is usually drop and hook at pickup, live unload (usually very fast), Mars is generally D&H at both ends, BD is usually drop and hook picking up and probably 90/10 D&H/Live at delivery. Home Depot and Menards are mostly live load with some D&H pickups and almost entirely D&H delivery. Broker loads obviously are almost exclusively live load/unload.
I'd say maybe 20 percent is fully drop and hook (at both ends), 40-50% is drop and hook at one end, and the rest is live at both ends. I seem to get on long jags where I'm doing nothing but live loading and unloading and dragging the same trailer for a week or so. I think it depends on what lanes you are on.

Some of it probably depends on where you live and where you run. I’ve had a lot of weeks with no live loads or unloads. The trade off is inspecting 10 or more trailers during the week. Lol.

I dosed it the last couple times since I've been running back and forth out of the Southeast plus since it's sitting this week and it's pretty darn cold here I wanted a little extra insurance. Knock on wood I've never had really big problems with diesel gelling. I've had air lines freeze up before and certainly have had to beat on frozen trailer brakes a time or two.

This is the truck I drove in truck driving school in 1995. I was pre hired with ATS out of St. Cloud Minnesota, they contracted with North American Van lines out of Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

We went there for a two week crash course to learn just enough to pass a CDL test. From there we rode IMG_3462.png with a trainer for 6 to 8 weeks.

I drove the flat floor condo, and flat floor flat top versions of that truck a LOT. As well as the dog house here and there. The only unreliable parts of that truck were air conditioning related. That led to me walking into numerous rivers along I-84/90/94 in the Summer with nothing but a bar of soap and a towel to take a bath and cool off.

    Hey Runningman,
Are you still driving for Fcc.
If yes. How many miles are you getting a week. Because I live in North Carolina,
I really like what they have to offer. I just wanted know before I pull the trigger.
    Thanks

He’s still there. Go back a few pages of this thread. He told another driver how he’s been running.

    runningman0661 and cdavis188 Thank this.
