Got a question for all my FCC brethren, I got into a heated discussion today with another FCC driver at the Lincoln drop yard.
I picked up a Sioux Honey load going to Anaheim, I scaled the load to make sure it was California legal, wrote down the axle weights. I saw it needed to be moved a few holes forward to be legal for California, but didn’t slide it because I saw by the weights he wouldn’t have any issue getting the weight legal.
When I get to the Lincoln drop yard he was waiting for me, obviously irritated that he had to wait. As soon I pull in he starts in on me “did you scale the load?” Me “Yes, I have the weights right here with the bills.” Him “Well why isn’t it slid to the California mark?” Me “you will have no
Problem making it legal, if you look at the weights” Him “Well why didn’t you slide it before you got here?” Me “Because I’m in Nebraska, not California”
Then we get into it about where the tandems should be at the 40’ mark ( red line on the trailer). Where did you put the tandems to make it California legal? I was always told center that mark in between the trailer tandems and you are legal. He insisted it should be centered on the back axle.
What say you? Maybe I’ve been wrong all these years, am I the Arse hole here? Please Advise

I thought the mark was for the center of the rear axle, but I’ve never measured and don’t have to worry about it because I don’t go out there. I’ve done the same thing dropping a trailer. Scaled it and made sure it was CA legal but figured they can slide it.

California is center of rear axle, not sure if fcc puts the red mark on the trailer for center of axles or not never ran Cali with them. But if king pin sets 3ft from front of trailer then measure 10 ft from rear of trailer make a make and set rear axle center hope that helps

I got irritated with my dispatcher today. Drop and hook anytime today at Four Oaks and i gave an ETA of noon yesterday afternoon. Got load info at 9:45 this morning to pick up a load in Burlington…at 1300. I told him I wouldn’t be able to make it and he had the audacity to ask me why…this is exactly what i told him.
For context, i was running about an hour behind ETA but that wouldn’t have mattered because even if I wasn’t, i was going to be an hour late the second they assigned the load to me. Needless to say, he said nothing and someone else rescheduled the appointment
I called my roommate when he went on lunch and vented for a bitGoody3635, dwells40, Knucklehead and 3 others Thank this. -
I had the same dispatcher learned years ago to not give a ETA...
