I love them for stuff like that.
Skidded coils are my least favorite to haul because they feel so “unsecured” unless I can get something down in the middle like that. Tall, smaller diameter ones suuuuck, imo.

Hey trailer question, I’ve always wondered which would be easier for your application, the covered wagon or say a low clearance conestoga? Thanks!

I have never owned a conestoga, so take what I say as my opinion, but this is my thought on it.
    Pros:
A conestoga would be a little quicker than a side kit and tarp
It would also be easier in some situations

    Cons:
    More expensive
More “one dimensional”, especially the lower it is
Pulls harder, especially a tall one

To explain my points, easier in that when there is a big coil or coils and you put your side panels in it can be a bear to get the tarp back over because you can’t squeeze between the coil and the side of the trailer. I sometimes have to crawl through the eye of the coil. With a conestoga you wouldn’t have that issue.
    On the one dimensional thought.
With a side kit, you could jerk everything off in 30 minutes if you had to, and have an open deck trailer. A low profile conestoga would severely limit what you could haul.
A conestoga pulls harder. With my open deck two axle my fuel mileage for 2024 was 6.315 mpg (for the year), hauling anything and everything, but never over 80,000 lbs. Pulling this three axle with a side kit routinely grossing 112,000-120,000 lbs my fuel mileage has been 5.4-5.9 mpg. I would be lucky to be doing 5 mpg with a conestoga from my observation of some friends that switch between an open deck and a conestoga.
I’m not hating on a conestoga, or thinking that guys that pull them are dumb, because there are multiple situations that they are a wonderful solution, but for what I’m currently doing I prefer a side kit and tarp.

Warm is good right now, in July or August it’s a completely different story! I love spring and fall, imo, the rest pretty much sucks.
