Fairly certain someone pulled my pin (won’t be able to tell until after the terminal has it inspected) when I stopped at a pilot for 15 minutes to use the bathroom, made it out of the truck stop, turned right onto a highway ramp, and the trailer came off.
Company had to send a bobtail + wrecker to assist with getting it off my truck and I got sent to a terminal to wait for inspection.
Not sure if I’m fired but I’m filling out job applications just in case, and was wondering if when I get to the part it asks about accidents if I have to bring it up?

Were you parked at the fuel island when you went to the restroom?

Pretty odd that someone would just randomly decide to pull the pin - Werner is no different to any other mega carrier.

How long had you been driving with it connected? Does the truck stop have cameras?

It's a good idea to check the truck anytime you stop and leave it. Maybe you irritated someone out on the road? Or somebody mistook your truck as the aggravator?

You'll have to wait and see what Werner says before any good answer can be given.

Any other accidents or tickets? I doubt they'll fire you for it. Now if you had just picked the trailer up and forgot to check it they'd be more likely to.

I take it this was yours? Looks like a cab extender and a fifth wheel handle. Did you try to back up? You said you got a warning. From who?

Probably. I've seen that done at Interstate rest areas a few times.
Now you know to do a tug test anytime you're away from the truck for even a few minutes.

Drove about 30 miles from the distribution. I’ve seen videos on Reddit and tik tok of it happening to other mega carrier drivers.

My guess is that it was high hooked. I really don’t see how a pulled handle would have resulted in the trailer sitting where it is if that’s your picture.

Highly, highly doubtful that someone pulled it if you did indeed park in a truck spot.

    I’m going with driver error.

Did they write it on an inspection? If so then it'll be on your PSP report. Werner sent a wrecker so you can bet they will report it as a preventable accident when any prospective employer contacts them for a reference. It'll will also be on your DAC report if Werner reports to DAC. So yes, you'll need to list it when you apply for another trucking job. Don't panic though. You're not the first.

It's curious that state troupers would be called for a trailer drop at a truck stop; or that they would even bother to come for something like that. Is there more to this story?
