I noticed right away when I first started driving a truck that I couldn’t see cars driving relatively close behind me. Not just the tailgaters, either, but back as far as a truck length or more. I look for their shadows, but that only works when the sun is off to the side enough to cast a shadow over to one side or the other.
I had an epiphany about backing up a tractor-trailer on a city street

Sure, the fact that youve had a cdl this long and not noticed it or the 90 million warnings your trainers told you about this pretty much means you really arent qualified for the cdl you holdElmerFudpucker, Sons Hero, Kyle G. and 6 others Thank this. -
Never back up in traffic without a reliable spotter or escort vehicle. Use your CB radio for help in a pinch.Vampire, Oxbow, LoneRanger and 8 others Thank this. -
I cannot bring a tractor-trailer to my house. The roads are too narrow. -
I have driven well over a million miles without a preventable accident. I probably have a better safety record than you do. -
I didn't find out about how sliding the tandems forward reduces off-tracking to make it so that I can more easily get around obstacles until after I had been driving a semi-truck for seven years. What do you think about that? -
Sons Hero, Kyle G., blairandgretchen and 4 others Thank this.
