Advice please. DMV instructor didn’t let me do the front of the truck. Fair or complain tomorrow would it work with my school? 160 driving acad kinda sucks man.. I gotta wait til may. but I Had a very passive aggressive old lady, she wanted me to do my air brakes first.. which was weird I didn’t except that, so I had to go straight ahead without warning. It was really crappy but I made it.. She went outside, I did forget my l/r signals in cabin lol. Yeah Some stuff I missed. However. I told her to go to the back of the truck; she walked over there to do the lights. And then she walked back and said “open the hood” standing in front of the truck waiting. I was confused because all the schools I been to we have ALWAYS been told to DO the no hanging wires, etc. Headlights. But she didn’t do that, just started on the inside of the engine?. Im so sure!!!!! That I named about every single updated 2025 part to name that I know fs I didn’t miss, other Other than that she said I didn’t say EXTRA specific things like the apron and skid plate gap with no light, ( I STG I DID THOUGH.she said it herself I got pretty much everything and in that area!?? But she marked like just a few from what she said I missed.) , I guess I didn’t say anything leaks on anything in the engine (I was too nervous so I forgot everything leaks but I said everything else wasn’t not abc.) and my tires, pretty much I didn’t say the valve stem to check my manufactures pressure along with (my tire depth gauge (which I did say). It’s jus, is it fair enough to not possibly let me start with my head lights? Idk I just feel like I was taught wrong because the instructors said I was good just the last awhile I did an actual full pre trip..and me studying by myself it sucks. But now I’m stressfully keeping it in my head
Pre trip failed at DMV….

Good luck. You don't have to mention any of this during job interviews; keep it to yourself.
Will you still get a certificate from 160?tscottme Thanks this. -
Umm, I dont know about other states, but in Minnesota you can have a checklist to follow on the pre-trip with you as you take the test. And why shouldnt you be able to do that, after all you fill out a DVIR (or at least used to many years ago) every day and everything is on that. If thats the case in your state, other than the truck itself failing, how can you fail that part?

It sounds like she wanted you to show her what you knew and understood, as opposed to what you memorized.TexasRiverRat, gentleroger, D.Tibbitt and 8 others Thank this. -
Practice forwards, practice backwards, practice standing on your head doing the okey pokey.
Examiners love to fail because it makes their numbers look good.
Welcome to trucking.

Are there Youtube videos on this? Record the best one a voice recorder and play it over and over to yourself throughout the day.
She's a government employee with specific responsibilities and she has to follow certain guidelines for doing the test. Was she even qualified to be giving you the test? Is she a trained and certified examiner or is she on loan from another department? The regular person could be on vacation and she is just filling in, making up the rules as she goes along. The public has a right to know this. -

Former 160 Instructor here, in KY when I taught you didn’t move on to skills until you could do the ENTIRE Pretrip forwards or backwards or sideways, and then EVERYDAY you stepped on my yard you did thr FULL PRETRIP VERBATIM FROM MEMORY, 2 days before your test it was just you and me and the truck. We would do every inch of that truck TWICE then do skills, then pretrip and skills you got 16 hrs to go over everything and ask questions
It sucked you only had 4 weeks of “training” but I had a 100% pass rate on my students, and they could maneuver a truck SAFELY and Confidently
