You could draw a parallel to trucking or wrenching - a craftsman 1/14” does the same job as a Snap on.

An FLD120 delivers the same as a W900.

I look at cymbals as breasts, the nipple is the bell. You can use that bell independently of the rest of the cymbal, but you can really cut through the neighbors walls if you use it right. I mean - get some lovely sounds going.

Sure, the handsome guitarist is doing his thing, with his thing - but there’s that cutting, syncopated bell just singing along on top of it, letting him know it’s all gonna wind up in the hospital, jail, or court.

Many of the stamped cymbals perform as well as expensive lathed jobs - they all have a tone, attack, sustain and pitch , but to the average ear - live - it either sounds‘average’ or grabs your attention.

Studio recordings - by the time it gets from the drumstick to the mixing board to the CD, or tape - or vinyl, through your car stereo or high end audio system -

well, you can often just ‘Bang a Gong’

I think I have 30 odd cymbals collected over the years - they all have their place and sound. A good hand can make garbage cans sound good.

There’s 6 year old Chinese kids that make me look like an amateur.

More like just this industry.. sometimes i regret ever getting into it. I enjoy it and it has given some things in life. But has taken away any free time.. it would be a different story if I got paid for all my time out here on the road, but it isn't the case... among other things... well at this point I am just a complaining truck driver , what else is new.

 

Why not go local? Seems like you don’t have a crazy amount of overhead.

 

The best day to change your future is today.

At your age, you got time. But don't take it for granted.

If you hate it, change it. Life is way too short to not enjoy

All I ever wanted to do since I was 5yrs old.

Vision standards did me in, even for cargo in any branch. Lifelong disappointment.

They all would let me do ANYTHING I desired based on ASVAB & backround, but anything other than flying was a "no bueno" for me at that time.
