I'm thinking of getting a harmonica that way I can practice while driving but am thinking of what instrument to get for the main focus.

Lotsa options and for some reason I'm thinking of hand drums. When I was down on my luck this crackhead Puerto Rican cross dresser I worked with washing dishes at an open kitchen Italian restaurant/bar told me about them but I don't remember if he said bongos/congos/idk.

Anyone got any ideas or suggestions?

    Cowbell is mandatory also.

Maybe Brass I have an old Vinyl of I think The Tijuana Brass Band or something like that with beautiful senoritas on the cover and when I was down on my luck working night shift at this hotel they had these two Mexican brothers running maintenance that played some type of horns on the weekends in full Marionetta threads and sombrero but the ladies these dudes use to have hanging off the arm was always spectacular. If that's what blowing air gets ya maybe I go that route.

But I'm Irish so I would have to go with the flute and learn to river dance maybe. Snake skin boots, stetson, red beard, Juarez on late Wednesday night with two paisas and p diddy's weekly supply of baby oil.

Or... never mind maybe they're done replacing my steers bout to go check

Bongos are the smaller of the hand drum usually played between the legs. Congas are the bigger type mounted on stands. They roughly do the same thing. Acoustic guitar should be easy enough to carry along with you on the road.

I've never seen nothing like that. It's amazing. Snare, cymbals, kicks.

You know what that's wild imagine being coordinated enough to play that with a normal kit also. I bet you could actually replicate some of the more digital hi hat patterns popular now in electronic music.

I've made a firm commitment to learn the ukulele first because of that genius island dude playing over the rainbow iirc.

I also think acoustic is the way to go as you point out even though I don't know anything about the draw from a small Amp on the inverter. Maybe it's workable also, could be fun to experiment with some pedals

As far as guitars are concerned, has anyone messed around with different pedals, finger slide things (I bought my pops one made of glass a super long time ago but never followed up), and also what is more fun for you: learning scales, learning songs (tab or sheet?), a mix of both playing around with chords etc?

I have no experience with any of that but have always respected it.

    WesternPlains and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

Played music ever since I was 5 years old , everyday up until the day I started driving trucks.. I was always a drummer and played in percussion section in school bands. Was in a jazz band as well ... scales and chords are great to learn because they are the building blocks for making whatever u want... although they are quite boring to practice over and over.. my favorite thing to do was blast some music thru some headphones and jam along with the drums on my favorite records.. I could probably still play the majority of all Metallica and red hot chili peppers records , blindfolded with no metronome and not even listening to the song and still be on beat , I've played them so much... lol
