Have you heard anything bad about KLLM as a starter company?

Whenever I see CDL job ads for them of late...it's always for TEAM drivers -- not solo.

Depending on where you live relative to Valdosta -- you may (or may not) be close enough to this company, which has a facility in Vidalia, GA:

    Training & Orientation

If I were in your shoes -- they would be my first pick for CDL employment, post-CDL school.

But...to qualify -- you (also) need to live within 100 miles of one of their terminals/DCs.

@ducnut can tell you all about them.

Past that -- KLLM is probably an ok choice...given the current <<<gulp>>> freight environment.

@Lostmykey can tell you all about KLLM.

Alternately -- you can go to the KLLM subforum...read all about it....& then draw your own conclusions:

    KLLM

They have three current job postings in Georgia that are solo. You just have to ride with a trainer for 6 weeks, then you go solo:
Guaranteed Pay Southeast Regional Class-A CDL Company Driver
Guaranteed Pay Southeast Regional Class-A CDL Company Driver - KLLM Transport Services
    Over-the-Road Class-A CDL Company Driver
Over-the-Road Class-A CDL Company Driver - KLLM Transport Services
    Dedicated Class-A CDL Company Driver
Dedicated Class-A CDL Company Driver - KLLM Transport Services

There's a new driver for them who started a year ago in Texas and they hired him when he lives 350 miles away from the terminal. Maybe they don't strictly adhere to the 100 mile thing? I don't want to call a recruiter until I'm positive I'll pass my CDL school. I'd also like to have my TWIC card and hazmat endorsement first.

I've talked to Dot Foods in the past and it was 150 miles so who knows? Doesn't hurt to ask.

    6 weeks with a trainer?

That sounds good -- provided that your assigned trainer is in fact reasonably experienced...a truly good trainer....& has the necessary patience.

If you wind up with a trainer like the one I had -- well...just ask for another trainer; don't waste 5+ weeks on a dud.

    350 miles? 150 miles?

    Maybe.

Suggestion: ask @ducnut about it....instead of a recruiter.

    Follow-up:

The 3 KLLM job postings listed above all say, "3 months recent experience required".

But....if they will somehow backpetal on that....& take you as a brand new driver....hey, more power to ya.....

    :dontknow:

Also -- for KLLM: do you have someplace nearby that you can safely park your rig during hometime?

Will KLLM in fact let you do that?

If not -- that commute to/from the Cartersville, Ga terminal is gonna be a booger.... :(
