The chart goes back to the year 2000. the number of lane miles is actually decreasing. Other charts yield data broken out different ways.
Here are the total number of registered tractor trailers: A 100% increase.
1980: 1,416,000
2020 3,143,000
Here are the total lane miles for the last 40 years: Less than a 10% increase.
1980 7,922,000
1990 8,051,000
2000 8,224,000
2010 8,582,000
2020 8,823,000
And we are not even getting to how many cars and other vehicles are out there....

Well, I don't have a dog in this fight, and mostly, aside from the dead people, I really don't care.
That said, when I started with Conway Southern Express, the 'corporate' office was in a strip mall in Charlotte NC.
So, you don't necessarily need a 200 acre lot to run a trucking company. Just need trucks and drivers.
