All the stuff I read on cats that is written by experts tells me none of them have ever owned a cat.

When The OM sees an ice cream, moreover when she hears me get the ice cream out of the freezer, she's sitting right there.

I've conducted my own scientific experiments of just opening the freezer, opening the freezer and getting something else out. This produces no reaction. But the ears are so finely tuned to the sound of an ice cream, it goes from a Stage II rhinoceros to sitting in front of me, almost before the lid is off the ice cream.
