Sorry to burst your guys hate bubble but some drivers are absolutely happy at night. I get between 2800 and 3k miles a week and get home as often as I want. As of January, I'm in my 3rd new truck in 5 years with them. Granted it's my first Volvo but I'm getting used to it. Now granted I have two of the best DM's in the whole company that never leave me sitting, but I am proof that it's not a systemic failure but rather a people failure. A good driver with a good DM can get the miles and get home regularly.

Well this is the thread for complaints on the company so one should not expect good comments on Knight in this section of the site.

But many of the posts seem to be filled with outright fabrications. I guy says he got a lawyer and sued for his pay? That one must of been a joke since any money owed as a company employee could of been obtain by simply filing a claim with Dept of L&I in your state. I have done it a couple of times and it is free. Guess next they will say the lawyer was a friend or did it for free.

Then you got people saying it is a good company for new drivers. They do not even hire trainees and most of the drivers at knight are experienced and come from other companies. The newbies are trained thru Squire and have to high standards to get into the training program and have to drive 90 days after training before they can sign on with Knight if they choose to.

Sure if you need your hand held and reqular hugs from your employer you can go to a small outfit like DNA did but I bet you he did like most and just hired on with whomever would take him after spamed the industry with aps. He is right that a small carrier can not afford to sit but when they do they go belly up. been their done that. I never needed hugs from my OTR companys, I worked at USX for many years and anyone knows how they treat drivers but I made good money their and got plenty of miles until they found it cheaper to use the rails.

My friend who works at Knight sent me a update on her miles at Knight last week . Started at 0800 on the 5/13 and did a local for $24 then ran a load to Shafter Ca 1022miles, Then from Lebec Ca to Tempe AZ 504 miles, Then DH back to Redlands Ca to run a load to Granview Wa 1406miles, then DH to Spanaway Wa To pu a load and drop in yard at Tukwila 226miles dropped at 1500 on 5/19. 3156 miles for the week and left friday afternoon with a load to CA after a restart.

Now that's funny right there. Knight tells their drivers where to fuel, how much to fuel, when to have their trucks serviced, what routes to take and if that isn't enough they even provide (wrong) directions to customers. Now tell me who is doing the hand holding.

A company with 60 trucks is not a small company. 85% of trucking companies consist of ONE truck. Only about 5% actually have 50 or more trucks or more.

Well since you brought it up......I've had three driving jobs in eight years. Applied at four but DOT Foods wasn't hiring at the time. With just at a million accident free miles I can be rather choosy as to who I drive for. It's pretty simple for me 500-700 miles per day, round trip freight out of where I reside and weekly (real) home time. I found all of that but unfortunately with the mega junk carriers setting the standard .39 cpm is about all anybody will pay, because they can.

You can preach about how great Knight is all day but judging from the replies here I can be pretty sure that no one is listening. The jigs up for Knight and they know this, that's why they formed Squire. There are plenty of good drivers possessing the strong work ethic that any carrier could thrive with. But those drivers aren't going to tolerate stupid lies and crappy equipment all the while catering to junk customers looking for a "value"

There you go. I had a decent DM but my terminal manager believed any driver was disposable. He would work for free or he would find somebody who would. I wonder how that's working out for him?

This sounds a lot like Knight.

    http://www.askthetrucker.com/retaining-truck-drivers-should-be-no-problem-for-trucking-companies/

And yet there are still people who insist that Knight is great place to build a career at and take it personally when a driver talks about how Knight "got rid" of them because they wouldn't work free or wouldn't accept the fact that a PM was going to take two days plus an extra day to fix the things they broke in the shop. Unemployment benefits hurt the bottom line, you would have to be a complete idiot to get fired from Knight.

Knights a garbage company. Nothing more nothing less. I worked there when the future was bright. I found out about Squire when they asked me to train for them. WTH? It was a cheap one sided flyer they mailed to my house. I left a training company to come to Knight, I earned my way into the company. It was a blessing in disguise after all though, a new job with a $10,000 annual raise. Once again, I ended up doing just fine but of course not before having the rug pulled out from under me by a supposed good employer.

I'm sorry but I somehow doubt that. Who mailed you the flyer? What terminal?

I'm pretty certain Knight mailed it to me. It was a generic flyer sent to anyone that could perform the job legally and without incident telling them to contact their terminal manager if they were interested. Sorry didn't mean to come off like I'm special. Also in that stack of mail was the current Knightline publication and that is where I found out the details of Squire. How did everybody else find out about Squire? Friendly coffee talk with their terminal manager while awaiting some freight?

I am an o/o for knight, some things he says is are true. For example, I have talked to at least 20 knight company drivers, they are now using paperless logs and they have told me that when they log on after 10 hours in the sleeper, they do a pre trip then head to their consignee/shipper and if its going to take 3 to 4 hours to unload, after driving for 1-2 hours to get there, they log back into the sleeper thinking this stops the 14 hr clock. I have advised Knight about this and they say nothing about it. I ve got 50 years otr 35 as an o/0. my logs are, have been and will always be legal.
