I know this isn't a big deal (but it is to me). I got my CDL permit today! Tomorrow I have my physical and then I'll be ready for class at Northampton Community College! I'm excited to be on the path to making this a reality!

Good luck ORG and keep us posted on how it goes! As of right now I've also decided to pursue this career, although for a number of reasons I won't be able to start driving school until the fall at the earliest. It seems to be the best option for my situation and interests, and as long as I can take my wife-to-be on the road with then I don't see any problems. We don't have kids, so getting that crucial one year of OTR experience shouldn't be much of a sacrifice. After that we'll see what happens, whether I stay OTR, or look for something regional or local. I'll be watching your threads with interest. Take care!

ORG, while in school take your time driving the range, backing, & 90 degree turns. That way when you drive on public roadways you won't drive over the curbs ( a BIG NO NO) when you take your cdl test.

ORG Schneidar (spelling?) does seem to be a good outfit to work for. They even have a deal where you can go out for 7 days and then take 7 days off. Of course you aren't going to make 45K/year doing that.
AfterShock Thanks this. -
Good luck.
Keep us posted on how the classes go. -

I'll definitely take your advice. Based on what I can tell initially, it looks like I'm going to get a lot of time behind the wheel. Seriously, driving a huge truck like this is going to be a real treat for me. I'm going to be like a kid in a candy store.AfterShock Thanks this. -
Beyond that, I really will need to make the time to spend with my family, and hopefully Schneider will be the good long term company to go with. Right now I'm assuming I can even get *hired* by this company. But basically they sound like a good match for me, and I know that while I'll have a need for time off every now and again, I plan to drive a lot of miles for whatever company I work for. I want to spend that time behind the wheel putting miles behind me, not sitting around placing bets as to when a Lot Lizard's left incisor is going to fall out (I have $10 on June 24th BTW).AfterShock Thanks this. -
Ya hear a lot of negativity and whining in this industry, but if you can MAN UP and deal with the downside(s), the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. One good thing about truck driving: you don't hafta worry about your job being outsourced to some overseas scrub willing to work for a nickel a day (or less). Good luck to ya... I believe I've spoken to ya before, and the other hand (can't remember who, maybe that "GasHauler") gave you good advice when he said suck it up for the first year, because then many more doors will open for ya. "ADIOS!!!"

Hey ORG!!! Congrats yeah!!
Good for you!! Ya know I have been following you thru this process the whole way now you gotta keep on posting how you do in school too!!
So glad you did your ''homework'' before hand and didn't just go on all the negarive comments.
Go out celebrate party!!!!
