Might you (OpenRoadGuy or anyone) recommend a recruiter to speak with at Swift?

How long would you suppose it would take from filling out the online application until getting a commitment to attend school?

How was the communication with your recruiter?
How quickly did they return your calls/emails?

Any other advice for getting into their school?

    Thanks!

Well I have been working with Jackie Curry and had to change my date twice for orientation and she has been very nice and accommodating. She has called everytime she was supposed to and kept the lines of communications open and has answered all questions I have asked. Now that in mind they are recuiters looking to fill spots but she seems to be very helpful so far.....Hope that helps..

She was very helpful with me as well. She called within 30 minutes when I applied to Swift online. Later when I was in orientation, there was an issue with my HazMat endorsement I think and she set up a conference call with me and the DMV. She had no problem waiting on the phone going through the Push 1 for English etc prompts for 20 minutes til we could talk to a real person.

I've spoken with Ben Harvey in Decatur, GA. They are ready to send new students to school on fairly short notice. I don't e-mail recruiters because they are overwhelmed with mail. I prefer to meet them in person. I got in to see Ben with no appointment.

When you meet with a recruiter, dress properly, be focused, ask direct questions, and be polite. If you show that you are on the ball and stay positive about joining their company, they'll move pretty quick.

Once you submit an application, you must stay on top of it's status without becoming an annoyance. If you fax it in, call to confirm that they've received it. You want to be "visible" as far as your application is concerned and not buried at the bottom of the pile.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for the replies!

I spoke to a recruiter last Wed. and then filled out the online application.
She called on Friday and said everything looked good to go and that she would call on Monday.
Had a hard time connecting with her Monday and Tuesday.... her voice mailbox said "this user's mailbox is full at this time, try again later"
As the full mailbox would indicate, she is extremely busy, I was just getting worried/anxious as I'm ready to get started.
She called this evening (Tuesday 6:30 pm) and has me scheduled for the
Oct 4th training in Millington.... Yeah!

OpenRoadGuy - thanks for sharing your experience with Swift with everyone.
It moved Swift up my list to #1 for company sponsered training.
Seems hard to go wrong with the largest company in the US and I like the large number of terminals and freight they have. (and oh yea, their good safety stats... plus what seems a fair schooling contract and apparently plenty of miles)
Hope to see you (all) on the road soon!

(not sure if I'm gonna bring my laptop.... ? ?)

if he is still there, i'd talk to Richard Landino. He basicly did a backround check, ran my DMV, work history, etc....everything, before i sent to the driving school in Lewiston, ID. Told him i didn't want to take a bus 2 days there....get rejected, and then have to find my own way back. And he never promiced me the world. Didn't promice me anything that he couldn't deliver.

As for broken down Swifts on the road: I've seen some trucks with our wagons on them on the side of the road. If they are anything like me, they might have gotten tired of that naggy Qualcomm beeping every five minutes and decided to haul it off the check the messages. Usually, mine will go off within five minutes of getting up to highway speed then nag until the message is read. However, I will wait until I get to either a rest area or go up a git-off ramp to read them.

Most of them who are honestly broken down with triangles out are waiting for the tire guy to fix the blowout on the trailer. It happens. Even when you pretrip the trailer. With over 16,000 trucks on the road, you're bound to see one on the side of the road once in a while. It's that old law of averages thing. With as many people as get their start with Swift, well, I don't know any one person who didn't make a few mistakes when first starting. None of us was born with keys and knowledge already in place. And I think the scores speak for themselves.

Going broke? LOL! Hardly. Even though many of the folks who couldn't make it with Swift wish that was the case, it doesn't make it so.

With size in numbers obvisouly you will see more swft rides on the road, its just common math..lol

Haters will always be haters regarless of what it is.They think life has thrown them a raw deal.Which is the case in a VERY small amount.Your in control over your own life decisions. If its a raw deal then its probably there own fault..
