Well I work for a small 28 truck company and we have to call every customer for delivery directions. I find more and more customers just asking me to gps it rather than call.

The best one yet is when I told the guy I didn't have GPS he told me he couldn't tell me how to get there because he wasn't in his office. ?? So he told me to google it instead and hung up.

Talking about SC for a moment, I used to chat and talk on the phone with a married woman who lived in Aiken about 11 years ago. I lived in California, single, up to no good lol. I never thought in a million years I would be driving through Aiken SC but yet there I was, fate and destiny guiding me through that town. I trip on stuff like that. Like rolling through the Rockies and seeing signs for Jim Bridger- I was always fascinated by the Mountain Men. Or Council Bluffs, or the Platte River, Billy the Kid all that *history* and millions of people driving by perhaps not even giving it a second thought. I can't help but trying to imagine what the places looked like 100 or 200 years ago unblemished by fences, buildings, roads etc. ]]

To bring it back to GPS, lol imagine the Oregon Trail guides' thoughts on that subject. Clark and Lewis? Pasquinel?

    Wyldfyur and JimDriv3r Thank this.

    huh?

i'm reading this as, "how are they going to catch you using one?"

the answer to that question is.....how many drivers put them away when driving into terminals where you have to be processed thru a gate? Every one of those gates has a camera that looks at your truck number, driver window and the rear of the trailer. they can see whats on your window/dash. wouldn't be hard to term a driver for using a GPS when its shining bright right there on the dash/window.

as far as they saying 'its policy'....i think they had better enforce the 'no flip flops' policy first before moving onto GPS'. besides i dont think there is an official GPS policy.......one for 'distracted driving' i'm sure, but not GPS specific.

as most terminals. your terminal have a photocopy of the xray of a driver with flip flops with a screw going thur it?

do you guys know that is prob. fake? when do they take an x-ray, and leave a flip-flop on, lets not forget that a flipflop is mostly foam? so why does it even show up on x-ray as well as skin or bone? hmmmmm?

When I worked construction I stepped on a "rattle snake" in steel toed boots. The nail went through the sole and into my foot.

If they want to ban GPS, fine - do it for the Bronze and Silver drivers. Allow the Gold Platinum and Diamond drivers to do what they want because their status says they have no accidents.

I think it's the wrong answer to ban them, on the contrary the company should be subsidizing their purchase because they actually save the company big bucks. I would also argue they help prevent accidents. If I'm going through a complicated multiple cloverleaf shifting gears watching my signs, and trying to read a piece of paper without running over grandma, are you kidding me? The GPS has a big picture of the billboard exit with the same name of the exit right there- no brainer and a big stress reliever knowing positively that's the correct exit for example. Knowing if you miss that exit will cost 14 miles to get turned around, doubled up is 28 miles that's money out of the company's pocket.

Yes good ole steel toe boots. Gotta have steel shanks lol. The company I worked for would fire anyone who walked by a board with a nail if they didn't either bend it over or pull it out or toss it in the scrap bin. Preventable accident. Speaking of which it's been about 13 years since my last tetanus shot....
