Multiple Snow storms heading for Colorado

I learned to drive in NM-CO-AZ-UT. Didnt know any better. still remember trying to pee in Alamosa CO at 3 Am with a 50 MPH wind and 20 below zero, driving a 318 Detroit and the whole front covered with cardboard. Good ol days my butt! Never chained a truck up until 1994 in WA. Scale man said "Do you have chains? and the guy I was runnin with said yes and off we went. He said he had 2 log chains. Drove ofer La Veta Pass in a blinding blizzard that nite.

 

Actually I was sitting in Seattle the next morning...Lol...I am a team truck(shhhh......don't tell anyone! It sounds more awesome thinking I could do it all myself! )

 

Wow...It is foggy as #### here in North Bend, Wa. I'm gonna have fun going over those mountains when my load is ready! Gotta love it

 

Yea I guess that sounds about right. I was thinking of my drives from Denver to Seattle in a 42' RV, usually takes me about 18-20 hours.

Thanks B.A.D. it actually wasn't that bad when I picked up my load. Got on over them. Driving through Minnesota now will be in Pennsylvania by tomorrow afternoon

 

Just to step in for a moment, I had gone from Otay Mesa CA with a load from Mexico to Denver for my first winter trip. Not too bad with the snow or anything, I have chains etc, but the temperature was down to 16 degrees at points. So I was doing my thing, going slower whatnot, trying to be safe and these other truckers who've done it (winter) a million times before would blow past me kicking up that filthy snow melt on my windshield. No biggie I thought, I have plenty of washer fluid but it was a frozen block of blue ice. Had to pull over every 5 miles to clean the windshield. That's not safe, being prepared with non freezing washer fluid is a safer and savvier choice. So I got there to the receiver and shook out my chains and one of the doubles was broken. I was thinking '#### why didn't I check that before I came up here, I'm so lucky it didn't storm'. But when I left San Diego it was shorts and T-shirt weather, that snow stuff is months away (in my mind). Bottom line is that I'm all set now with brand new chains and -40 windshield washer.

 

I got into Colorado eastbound on I-70 last night for what I thought was going to be the start of a big week to find the chain law in effect at Vail Pass and now the Eisenhower tunnel as well. It doesn't look like they're going to lift it today and there seems to be a good chance they won't tomorrow, either.

I don't have but 17,000 in the box, so I'm doing like I was trained to do and sitting it out in Grand Junction where the weather is actually nice and calling 511 every half hour. I'm tempted to run it to the 133 for a quck jump when it's lifted, but I'm thinking the parking situation will be a nightmare.

It seems like CO would have getting 70 cleared down to a science by now. Guess not ... Just looking at the weather channel and the DOT webcams, I don't see anything resembling a blizzard. At least I'll have a fresh 70 by the time I get moving again ...

I'm glad I'm not westbound out of Denver, though. I just called again and now they have a closure at Georgetown courtesy of a "rolled vehicle."

 

Well I guess it's here...'winter' that is!

 

It's raining up something here in Pa. And I have to say the wind is whipping that mt trailer like it's nothing.....
