It would be a funny event, for sure. I met Injun and Fewe in Denver, and they seemed to enjoy my company (as limited as it was)...but i ran into Injun again in Phoenix few weeks later.

as far as my student, sitting in edwardsville, think i already have my next one lined up. been waiting since last wed. for a mentor. Going to talk to someone at orientation monday (tomorrow) and request me. My student and i will be back thru edwardsville in a couple days. Seemed to get along pretty good with the new one...but kinda felt like he had a tiny chip on his shoulder. I credit that to waiting for a mentor. only time will tell....

Sounds like this mentoring thing is working out for you so far Dick, that's great. I am teaming with my former mentor now. I hate having to live in such a confined space with another person. But the mentoring thing might be something I would be interested in because (if I stick with OTR) my basic plan would be to take a student for the 6 weeks then go a couple weeks solo between students to get the best of both worlds. I just don't know how Swift would react to that plan though. I know there is a macro 'available for trainee on __-__' so I figure it can be like setting your PTA lol just a couple of weeks out.

thats a big 10-fo good buddy. They dont mind, BUT if there is a crunch for mentors at the time, they'd like to see you go right from one to another. But honestly, if you take enough time off between loads to unwind a little, get in a good meal, go to a local hooters and watch a game, have a beer, take in a tour at a Budweiser brewery.....its all good.

I did ask about why i was still OTR rather than on that wal-mart DC account (which was the whole reason i signed up to BE a mentor) and they said they wanted to be sure i was going to follow thru with taking on a student first (basicly). starting with my next student, we'll be running wal-mart dedicated. $30 a stop out of harrisonville......i cant wait for those 3-4 stop loads =)

Kirk graduated, and has been solo for a few days. Still getting the hang of it.

Got a new student this past thursday, and already thinking of putting him out. Don't want to trip plan, and has pulled off on the shoulder of an interstate to check directions. Does not seem to want to listen and has this "dick jones-know it all" vibe comin' from him. there can only be one dick in the truck. =)

If he told you that, then he's lying. I can't help it if from time to time his living in the gutter rubs off on me. :biggrin_25510: You know the saying "if you lay down with dogs, you wake up with fleas"?

But you would be wise to continue not listening to him. LOL

My team partner just quit mentoring last week. You should see the qualcomm traffic begging him to come back and mentor! He won't go back as it almost cost him his business. our DM was telling us about another L/O who is $15,000 in the hole with his truck.

Your DM needs to be fired if he allowed one of his L/Os to go that far in the hole without some sort of intervention. Yes, I know, we are responsible for our own businesses, but obviously something has gone terribly wrong here. Now I'm curious what the whole story is with that other L/O or if your DM is just saying that to make you feel better. $15K?!? What's that DM doing to help that L/O get some miles? Or is the L/O turning down a lot of loads? What's the story? No excuse for that large of a negative balance.
