The point of my question, Rug, is you continually bash the lease operators for their option. If you have never done it, then you don't know what you're talking about.

Thats the messed up menality of fleeced operators. Kinda goes along with the line of you cant have a life and be a successful l/o.

I think us Swift drivers should stick together. A little drama and good-natured teasing is good because it makes life interesting. What we don't need is Swifties turning on each other!

Cool. Another union uh....can't use that word.... uh...can't use that word either....... in the Swift threads. Nothing better to do, eh? Union job must be treating you well if you've been laid off already. Only explanation why you have time in the middle of the day to .....can't use that word.....the Swift forum.

Or...in the words of one of my favorite philosophers, one Mr. James P. Connolly:
    ..........." and-uh, you are??"

Well, I done gone and did it! I signed the lease on a 2010 Kenworth T-660. My back of the envelope calculations say that if I run similar miles as a L/O as I did as a company driver I will be grossing about $100 a week more as an L/O. However I expect to do better than that because L/O's are higher up on the freight food chain at Swift over the company drivers.

The truck will officially be mine and ready for loads tomorrow morning at 6AM however I still have to get it into the shop to change out the truck numbers on the sides. The parts dept did not have 2 of the digits for the new truck number so my son and I jammed down to the local J to buy the fancy decal numbers and I'll have the shop put those on as well as check the roof leak that I observed last week during a rain storm. The truck has locking cubby holes on each side but no keys for them so I guess they will have to be drilled out and replaced with new locks. A nice feature I wasn't expecting was a bunk heater which works great. There is also a Refridge switch but no fridge.

I took someone's advice up there and asked to see all the maintenance history of the truck. It is a repo truck with 281k miles. Previous L/O ran it out of fuel at least twice. After it was repoed Swift spent thousands of dollars fixing the truck back up for the next guy--

    • B service
    • All brand new tires
    • New Torque bars
    • New brakes
    • New Crankcase filter
    • New Mirror (Must have swiped something)
    • All wheel alignment

    Tapeworm Thanks this.

Your ignition key doesn't open your side boxes?

I guess we know the last guy wasn't too bright...running it out of fuel...twice! Not like the Comdata card didn't work.

Next step, have a face-to-face with your DM if you haven't already, so you can each lay out to the other what you need. Your DM needs to know what your expectations are. Don't allow yourself to be treated like an employee. Your DM works with you. Neither of you works for the other. This is your business. Swift will not run it for you. You are a nice guy and that will help. But you will have to learn when it is appropriate to be ...not nice. You have to be your own advocate.

I hope this works for you. It's not a cake walk. You have something many others don't. People who have been there, willing to advise you. But no one can do it for you.

Hey, at least you don't have that other shyster filling you full of BS any more. Now you've got about a half dozen shysters. Questions will be happily quibbled over.

Good luck, Scottie. I really wish you success in this.

    need a pic scottie
i love it when people get trucks--must be a very exciting time
i remember my last one--a beautiful w-9 all black--matching trailer, being the nice guy i am i gave it to my son--but as a new driver he was very rough on it--he didnt look after it very good, now it just sits at the bottom of the toy box ,never gets played with
i sure hope that you have better luck with your truck than i had with mine

scottied67, inkeper and Injun Thank this.
