Great to have you with us!
I'm a new Swiftie (first solo dispatch was last August) but I have come to the conclusion that the Swift's customer service area is in dire need of overhaul. I've run into too many situations at shippers/receivers where Swift is almost laughed at by security and receiving/shipping office personnel. On far more than one occasion I've had these people say, and I'll paraphrase, "Oh, your with Swift. This happens all the time. We've asked them to change "such and such" and they simply will not do it."
I'm listening!!! You've at least been out here.
[/QUOTE]
More of this kind of activity might just lead to some justification for "Best In Class". Thanks BigShrek for stepping up!!
Someone on the inside who has been on the outside can sift through the weird stuff. A lot of what I read on here about Swift is simply hogwash.
Mr Glass comes across as someone who believes that "education trumps beration" EVERY TIME!
Any idiot can send out whiney threats over the qualcomm. It takes a leader to see the benefit of continuing to train new drivers and the qualcomm is a great vehicle for that.
I second that!!!!
He's gonna get "Oldnewbied" next opportunity I get.
What he said!
I couldn't have hand picked a better DM. I'm also very satisfied with the work of the folks that plan me. I've let my DM and the planners down more than once and, for the most part, have no one to blame but myself. However........![]()
I may regret this... But ask someone on the inside!

OK where to start, well, as a driver takes load after load and ends up say 2000 miles from home, I gather he starts getting planned in the terminal's locale that he is in not so much by his own personal DM and planner back home correct?
Is it true you guys can tell when a driver is scheduled to go home by some highlight system of the truck number? I have been the victim of requesting hometime (from California) while being in say Maryland and getting preplanned on a load going east into Delaware-- the wrong way lol.
When a load comes up for needing to be hauled do you blast the preplan out to all empty available trucks or select trucks, or just one truck within a certain radius of that load? First one to accept it gets it? How does that come to be?
With regard to previous question are you able to see things and/or take into account the available driver's(') service failure record, ranking status, history of log violations (or not) and on time percentage, and such and does that have any weight on your decision to offer them the load? Is there a preference or priority for lease operators to get the freight over company drivers?
We always hear and are advised to keep up with our Mac 10 up to date and accurate daily. I was teamed with a guy who said that was 100% bunk, that to stay higher in the "queue" it would be better to go a day or 2 late on sending those Mac 10's in because it shows we are available 2 days ago (and thus prioritized) compared to other drivers who updated and are available right now.
If a driver happens to be in a 'dead freight zone' would Swift pull a random load off a load board rather than waiting for a Swift customer to produce a load?Last edited: Mar 5, 2011

There have been occasions way back in the past when I was new and green that I would get a load that didn't have an appt for delivery yet. An appt would be made, but I was never notified. I've noticed lately that a message comes over the QC when an appt is made or changes. Is this automatic now? Or was it just not being used a few years ago?
Certainly seems logical to let the driver know of an appt change ASAP, yet there were times I was not told. Silly waste. -
You are correct, the country is divided into planning zones, the larger cities have a zone dedicated just to that zone if there is a lot of freight in or out. So for example my terminal is in the MEM, or Memphis, planning area. If you are in Amarillo, TX, you are in the TXW, or Texas-West planning area.
That is exactly true. I can pull up any truck and tell at a glance how close home time is by the color of the "days out" section.
It depends on how hot the load is. If I am trying to cover a JIT load where the driver broke down, or accepted the load knowing he couldnt make it but wanted to go to Texas or wherever (service failure, btw), I will blast it out to 3 or 4 trucks, and whoever bites first gets the load. If a planner is planning a load that picks up in 3 days, he will plan it on one truck at a time.
We can see the ranking system, and in just a few seconds can see service failures. As far as how that weighs on offering the load to a driver, it depends. In most cases, it doesnt matter. But if I am planning a JIT load, I will not plan it on a driver with 3 or 4 service failures, unless I just need to get it picked up and t-called somewhere. Yes, I believe in second chances, but I have to make sure my loads get picked and delivered on time.
Pure garbage. Keep your macro 10 updated. You will be planned based on your PTA. Now, if I was in Laredo on a friday night as a driver, I would not send a macro 10 until I am planned on a load, because that WILL change your position on the available driver list. But if you are dispatched, send it every day. Otherwise your DM will get bent out of shape and possibly get in trouble. And as you know, crap rolls downhill...
Swift will not wait for a customer to produce a load, unless you are in an area where we KNOW there will be a load, like Neelys Landing. Otherwise, you will be deadheaded to the nearest load that is closest to being picked up. -
1nonly Thanks this.

Let's talk about getting juicy long PP's when your hometime is due and you are 70mi. from the house. What's that all about?
Also why am I asked to do a live load, and live unload on a 50-60 mi that eats up 6 hours of my 14? I had that happen last week in MD. I could have just grabbed the other load they sent me and gotten home on my overdue home time sooner.
I have a friend that has got hooked into short runs around the Atlanta area. Same crap. Doesn't pay squat, should pay hourly. He declined and the planner sent him a message to call his DM. They told him he could be routed to Decatur to clean out his truck if he kept refusing the day cab runs!
Why is it we can't get a price list or pay sheet explaining what pays what on those short day cab runs.
I did a 1mi. run for the Columbus terminal once. I had to pick a Tcall off the yard and go for a live unload. How was that supposed to pay? Hourly? The Challenger Thanks this. -
I have a couple:
Say your on HT and get a message telling you to pick up at X at Noon the next day when you come off HT. You know based on previous experiences, the load will be ready before then. Can you call the receiver and ask them if the loads ready or do you go PU at the scheduled time???
Now lets assume you get the okay from shipper saying the load is ready to be PU. When you arrive it is not. What do you do???

Shrek: I did not receive a response from my last PM to you.

Send a message to your DM the planner can check if it is ready.
Get it on the Qualcom!! Get detention pay if it isn't ready.
