Swift is now asking all drivers to send in a freeform message stating GOAL on the QC every time you are required to back up.
I can see a lot of implications from this.
First, this is an unnecessary extra step for a professional driver. That means there are unprofessional drivers out there crashing while backing up and it's affecting us all-- not fair.
Second, what about the driver who decides "I will never send in 'GOAL'" and gets into a backing crash, or not? The only time they could prove you were backing would be in a 'bump the dock' situation, whether you sent Mac 15 or not.... Perhaps they could deny detention pay if one did not send in the GOAL? Technically you never backed up to the dock, we don't have to pay....
Third, truck stops will be turning into scattered display of Swift trucks who refuse to back neatly into parking spots.

huh? That's a freaking waste of my time to have to send ANOTHER message when I back up or dock.
Lord I hope this doesn't apply to our fleet.scottied67 Thanks this. -
Prob due to the accident in Spokane.

Hopefully having to send in the GOAL is short term and only to make drivers more aware. BTW hubby said he did hear that the driver injured in spokane is doing ok, lots of dmg of course, but he survied.scottied67 Thanks this. -
As Paul Harvey used to say "and now the rest of the story!" I keep forgetting to do mine.
scottied67 Thanks this. -

Wouldn't it be easier to just discipline and fire those drivers that can't drive safely?JustSonny, The Challenger, scottied67 and 2 others Thank this. -
Well bless your heart. -
This is the first I've heard of this. I'll ask my DM tomorrow. Doesn't seem very productive to me and I don't want to pay the extra money for the QC messages.
Texas-Nana, scottied67 and The Challenger Thank this. -
Oh boy when I got that message today I just said to myself why oh why must they do this. I know how to back! I know when to get out and look and when not too. I am the driver!
AS long as I get your load there on time and safely don't bug me with this kind of ridiculous stuff.
Yes I do goal when needed but every time I back gimme a break? Comon I will forget half the time to send the message. Granite some people need to get out and look every time they back but I started driving way back in the early 90's when companies let you be the driver and I do have plenty of experience.
To me it is ridiculous to expect me to send them a message every time I back up. I have enough to do already. Sorry guys but this is just plain dumb! I will be tired one night if not every night and the last thing on my mind will be to send someone who has probably never even stepped into a truck a message saying. Uh I'm backing up now!!!
Crazy just plain crazy!!! If you have to have your drivers let you know every time they back then I suggest Swift you start looking at who you are hiring????
Plain Simple AS That!!!scottied67 Thanks this. -
I agree that sending in a "goal" message every time you back up is silly. The messages I see on the Qualcom from my terminal suggest that we have a terrible record in regards to backing crashes...."crashes" sounds a bit extreme for what might actually be minor incidents. Anyway..I sent in three "goals" on Tuesday and actually got a "thank you" response almost immediatly after the first one...never got any response from the other two. It only takes a second to send...after I get my setup..I grab the qualcom and text "goal"...no biggie but it seems a bit ridiculous. I think everytime I stop to pee... will text...."pee" on the qualcom.
dieselnut81, The Challenger, hunnerbunner and 7 others Thank this. -
I happen to agree that this is a little extreme, and accomplishes little. It is not going to make you a safer driver...
Texas-Nana, Tapeworm, scottied67 and 1 other person Thank this.
