sure i would like too, better yet look at the statistics...the stats dont lie ...dont argue look it up Drivers with 10 yr+ experience are 93% more likely to be in an accident while actually driving ...new guys get into backing accidents...do you know why this is true...cuz old school drivers are alot more likely to be complacent ...meaning they think they are too experienced to have a problem and i have seen it they are the ones that think they always gotta pass you even tho your already doin 5 over the limit...ALSO i attended truck driving school back in 95 and have met peeps that are recent grads...truck driving schools all tell you that the school is just to get cdl...NOT that they know everything ...they actually stress quite the opposite...so considering all you old school drivers havent prolly EVER been to a school, plz dont pretend to know what your talking about...:biggrin_2551: btw i am NOT a recent truck driving school grad...rather it was 1995...nor am i some burnt out overweight squeez behind the wheel crusty ole rock a billy wannabe elvis impersonator either...not sayin any of you are ...but YOU know if you are....this message is not directed entirely at kittyfoot...but rather all the ole timers that think they are superior...have a nice day...oh and by the way ..porkchop sideburns look retarded...in case you havent noticed all these years

Ok, I'll bite. My wife went to school in PA in 2008. Not 20 years ago. They drove, sure, but there were 6 people in ONE truck... she got a little bit of driving time, but not as much as needed, since there were two guys there who had NEVER DRIVEN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. So, of course, the instructor has to teach them what a clucth was before all of the good stuff.

There were shown a log book - period. Hours of service were touhced on in a 30 minute class, while half the class was still outside doing backing practice.

Backing training consisted of only that necessary to pass the CDL test... no docks, angle, straight or otherwise. It was a bummer, especially for what it cost.

I'm from Texas, too, so I'll refrain from flaming you, but I can assure you you're going to get some his for this silly remark:

"so considering all you old school drivers havent prolly EVER been to a school, plz dont pretend to know what your talking about"

    Argumentive much?

Would you be kind enough to divulge the source of your statistics--Since I am one of those ol school drivers you talk about--Having said that I think you will find if you have read anything I have posted--I do NOT have the newbie vs ol school supposed mentality that so many "new drivers" lament--but I find it hard to believe that I am 93% more likely to be involved in an accident....
I would be very interested in reading the report you are quoting from--and especially in who conducted this study--and their research materials and methodology
    Thank You!

yeah lol i have been accused of being the arguing type ...people say i shoulda been a lawyer...but actually you just agreed with me...the argument was over ole schoolers saying that the trucking schools tell their graduates that they already know everything they need...and they really dont...in fact what you said sounded exactly like the experience i had in school...thats really the point i was making...i tend to tangent a little lol...too much caffeine i guess...have a good one man

I work for lawyers, and they don't argue, they debate, then have lunch together after they settle your case.

Your point (that we agree on) about poor training in schools doesn't compute with the claim that older drivers are 93% more likely to have accidents. I'm not talking about hitting a pole at the truckstop.. but I think if you look at newer drivers, versus ME, for instance, with 1.3 million safe miles and no preventables... the numbers don't add up.

to be honest those statistics were from like 2006 and were quoted to me in orientation one time ..i do not know the source but i think it was a government study...but seriously i didnt make it up..new drivers are more likely to get into backing accidents...experienced are more likely to get in accidents...its because new drivers on a whole are scared of the truck and tend to be more careful...i could prolly find it but it would prolly take me all day too and i just dont have the time but its out there if you would like to try...but think about it...it does make sense...if you remember how you drove when you were new...it doesnt mean you as an experienced driver are more likely to get in accident it means that most accidents on the road are commited by experiened drivers...not newbies:biggrin_25525: also my comments were only directed to the ole schoolers that have the vs attitude....not all ole schoolers

Well, if it was quoted in an orientation by some office guy who has never seen the inside of a truck, it must be true.

I was told something by an old science teacher in high school - approximately 73% of all statistical numbers and made up. As for the 93%, I believe - he was trying to convince people not to be complacent.

you may be right ...but i have heard that more than once and it was from the safety director at prime in 2006 for sure..i was also told that in trucking school earlier on in 95 so it must have some merit...but in all fairness i dont have the actual study in my hands...nor did i mean to disrespect you or other experienced drivers...if i did i apologize i guess i had a certair type of trucker in my mental image as i was ranting..kinda like the trucker off thelma and loise movie...you know the type...and like i said...earlier i tend to tangent and rant sometimes...and yes i do consider this a freindly debate...i am nowhere near angry or upset i am actually in a great mood atm..(only saying that to stress the emotion intended for this message...since you cant actually see my demeanor):biggrin_25523:

Understand I am not accusing you of making it up--and I have no doubt that it was told to you--this is always my FIRST question to someone who quotes statistics to me--and do not get me started on people who do orientation and training--and yes had I been sitting in a class or something with you--I WOULD have challenged him/her on the spot--and of course told them to continue--and they could provide it at an appropriate time--I can usually be polite--but frankly the older I get--the lower the warning buzzer on my B******T Barometer!:biggrin_25519:
