I agree, Canuck. All this talk of Knight going under and drivers needing to find another job asap is misguided. Knight's net income in 2010 was 61.1 million, up from 50.6 million in 2009, and everyone knows most trucking companies were bleeding in '09.

Furthermore, they're a debt-free company, and if you look at their stock prices, they've been pretty consistent over the past year. If the shareholders were expecting to take a beating from this lawsuit, they'd be dumping the stock fast.

What happened here is disgusting, but unfortunately Knight is going to be fine after it's all over.

Who wants to make odds this gets settled before trial?

.....With a gag order on the widow?

Probably the most likely outcome, but I would have put a much higher percentage on this solution prior to Knight's deceitfulness. I hope it is now about more than the money, but of course that is up to the plaintiff.

Slim and none. The court has ruled that the Knight truck struck and was responsible for the person's death. Once a jury hears WHY there was a summary ruling in the case do you think they would give the widow any less then the settlement would be? I'm sure her lawyer is telling her exactly that with $$ signs in his eyes.

My point is, Knight doesn't want this to go to trial and become public record...even though they completely bolluxed this one and it is anyway. They won't want the name dragged through the mud one more minute than necessary. They will settle for some obscene amount of money and, in return, place a gag order on the widow.

I'm sure you are reading this correct, Injun. I'm a little surprised we haven't heard from those "Knight Champions" telling us how it could NOT POSSIBLY reflect at all on Knight. That they had nothing at all to do with it. You know who I mean, those that always show up on every Knight thread to tell us what a wonderful company it is. . .:biggrin_25513:

Well sure... IF she settles. Its not up to Knight to determine whether that happens. If she takes it to court... Knight won't have much to say about it according to the brief.

    Ya mean the "cheerleaders???"

    I'm in this camp.

The settlement window never closes, so who knows . . If Knight offers a settlement that pays the lawyer what he believes the case is worth TO HIM, Knight would be stroking an 8 digit, left of the decimal, check at a minimum.

    So why not settle?

It isn't often you'll hear of punitive damages in a wrongful death case. Make good or make whole, yes, but to be punished for an accident, no. An accident is an accident.

The court is saying it wasn't an accident. Knight put an over hours killing machine out there and it killed. Then it ran and Knight facilitated it's escape.

I stand by my original post.

Then did everything it could to Cover up the evidence that it was IN the Accident Destroyed Evidence Blocked the Investigators from seeing the Truck hell about the Only thing they did not do was Burn the truck to the Ground.

Knight is lucky that the Judge in this case did not tell them that based on their action that the Plaintiff won their Summary Judgement against THEM. Then went into Penalty Phase. Complete with Punitive Damages. I do not want to be their Lawyers they are in a box with No Wiggle room and underwater with a leeak in that box.
